Personal History
Solek was born to traditional Vulcan parents in 2339. They were historical researcher working at the ancient monastery at P’Jem, studying artifacts. Solek was an only child. Shortly after his birth, Solek and his family moved to Memory Alpha, where his parents continued their research. He spent his early formative years at Memory Alpha. He was raised in the Vulcan ways of logic.
In his early teens, Solek, relocated to Vulcan along with his parents. They continued their studies at the Vulcan Science Academy and he became a student at the Academy. He graduated six years later with a degree in archaeology.
The first thing he did after graduating was to spend two years achieving the Vulcan Kohlinar level of total logic. One of his proudest accomplishments was the erasure of all emotion through meditation, and hard work.
After a few decades studying with his parents, Solek decided he wanted to learn things he could not on Vulcan, and joined Star Fleet. His parents were very supportive, and at the age of 32 years old, he was commissioned an Ensign in Star Fleet, just as the first Dominion War was ending.
The Borg invasion of 2373 occurred while Solek was serving aboard the USS Budapest, a Norway-class starship which was engaged in the battle for Sector-001. During that battle, the Budapest’s shields failed and several crew were captured and assimilated by the Borg. Solek was among them. He was now Three of Six, Tactical Drone of Unimatrix 11 aboard Sphere 0417, which escaped in the aftermath of the destruction of the cube at Sector-001.
While assimilated his mind was assaulted, stripped of his Vulcan training, and reprogrammed as a maintenance drone aboard the Borg Sphere. He served as a drone for over thirty years, into the invasion in 2402 (Fed-Space timeline).
His parents were assimilated during this time, and, unknown to him, were serving aboard one of the cubes that attacked the Sol system and was subsequently destroyed.
When the collective was defeated, Sphere 0417 began a self-destruct sequence, but that sequence was aborted for unknown reasons, and Three of Six was, along with two other drones were left stranded on a nearby deserted ice world. Without a collective, they quickly degenerated into savage machine-beasts and fought over a bio-regeneration device which was in the pod they’d been launched in. Three of Six was victorious, although his left arm implant was destroyed in the fight for the node. He regenerated, but there was something wrong. With no voices in his head he was lost, and actually wandered the world for several days before a Star Fleet crew found him, sedated him, and captured him.
One member of that crew, a security crewman, spent a lot of time with him. Officially she was there to guard him and protect him and the crew from one another while his implants were removed, replaced with Star Fleet medical technology, and while it was confirmed that he was no threat. But the two spoke much, and he found that he liked her. More importantly he trusted her.
When she experienced a traumatic life event, he felt that it was his turn to help her through it. He offered his experience and support through the journey to recovery.
When Solek was reviewing personnel for the USS Reciprocity, he came across her name; and after researching her career felt she would be a good fit for the crew. Her name was Wren Gaglardi.
The next several weeks were a blur of his implants being neutralized and removed, and his DNA restructured and rebuilt. The entire process left him with some residual effects, but the Borg ‘technology’ had all been removed.
A Vulcan Star Fleet doctor named Sormok helped to repair and de-assimilate Solek after his assimilation. They became close friends and Solek has maintained contact with him through the years.
What was left was an unnatural pallor, frequent headaches and nightmares. And most importantly, the decades of Vulcan emotional training was gone. Solek was physically healed, but he may never regain his Vulcan logical objectivity. Over three decades as a drone changed him forever.
However, he has recovered enough to pass all Star Fleet requirements to return to service, and to rise to eventually command, even if in a very special circumstance.
In addition, as the result of his assimilation and de-assimilation, Solek has two oddities.
First, he still has some Borg nanites in his body that were unable to be removed. These act to cleanse his system regularly, removing toxins, including most drugs. This means that it is virtually impossible to poison him, or for him to become inebriated. It also means that many medical drugs are ineffective as they are identified by the nanites as invading toxins.
Second, while he isn't usually purposely telepathic, he has been left with the effect of unintentionally projecting his thoughts, much like Bendii syndrome, but not nearly as bad. When Solek becomes very emotional, especially if he has not meditated recently, his emotions can project, and occasionally parts of his thoughts. This is a direct result of damage caused by the assimilation and has been unable to be repaired.
He returned to Vulcan, only to find that not only was he unable to re-capture his previous level of logic, he was unable to even achieve the rudimentary levels he had as a teen. He found he easily lashed out, and was unable to control himself. He left Vulcan feeling a failure, and returned to Earth where he studied to become re-certified and drove himself into his work.
Star Fleet re-certified him for duty in mid-2407. Following that he rose back through the ranks, and positions, but found himself increasingly being given more and more dangerous and covert type assignments. He later found that he had been being ‘groomed’ for Black Ops.
His dossier was officially switched to Star Fleet Covert Operations a year ago, and he was recently given command of the USS Reciprocity.
Solek has a slightly off moral compass at times. He has no moral issue with using telepathy to achieve mission objectives, even at the expense of others. He also has no moral objection to terminating those who might expose the ship or mission in the view of it being for the greater good. In a sense, he takes the old Vulcan proverb “The good of the many outweighs the good of the few, or the one” to an extreme.
Personality Profile
Academy Major(s): Archaeology, Engineering-Power Distribution, Command
Academy Minor(s): Intelligence Analysis, Hand-to-Hand combat, Personal Weapons Combat
Hobbies and Pastimes: Andorian Martial Arts
Short-Term Goals: Effectively accomplish the objectives of the USS Reciprocity and add security to the Federation.
Long-Term Goals: Overcome the pain and trauma of having been assimilated.
Personality: Dry, but not as much as most Vulcans. Slightly harsh, overly serious.
Sense of Humor: Not generally, but when he does it is dry and sarcastic.
Phobias: The Borg
Likes: People who do their jobs well, and do not question orders.
Dislikes: Inefficiency. Largesse. Anything not required for functionality.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: Boisterous or loud individuals. Those who overly express emotions.
Bad Habits or Vices: Since assimilation, Solek tends to tap his fingers in what seems like a random pattern when he isn’t doing anything else. In reality he is tapping out a code—the identification signal that was Three of Six.
Achievements: Surviving the Borg. Accomplishing what he has since returning to Star Fleet.
Disappointments: Not knowing what actually happened to his parents. Allowing himself to be stripped of his Vulcanity by the Borg.
Illnesses: Solek is prone to allergic reactions to certain types of fur and body hair. Even from a distance.
Strengths: His resolve, his passion to get the job done. Physically he is very fit and able, and works out regularly.
Weaknesses: For a Vulcan he often seems chaotic, a reaction to his having been forced into order with the Borg. He also tends to appear distant and disconnected from his surroundings when not focused on a task.
Fears: The Borg, or anyone or anything trying to control him.
Prejudices: Since his assimilation and healing, he has a lot of trouble dealing with overly emotionless Vulcans.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Plain clothing, functional. Not stylish. Grays.
Distinguishing Features: Nothing other than his odd skin color and behavior.
Pets: None.
Friends: He has been reluctant to make friends since his assimilation. He lost most of his friends and comrades during the Borg invasion.
Personal Paradigm Shifts
Most Painful Experience: Being assimilated and later learning his parents were not only killed but assimilated.
Best Time: When he was a child/early teen, learning about the universe.
Most Crucial Experience: Assimilation. And rescue from being assimilated.
Role Model: Surak. Solek wishes he could recapture the ways of Vulcan logic, but seems incapable now.
