Lineage

The USS James Madison is named for the ancient Terran philosopher/statesman, author of the United States Constitution in 1787, and 4th US President James Madison.

Specifications

Enhancements made by SFSCOCOM to refit the standard ES class to a Special Operations/Covert Operations vessel. Enhancements include modifications to warp power (9.5 top speed), torpedo launcher (Magazine increased to 16), and stealth capabilities.

Modifications

The USS James Madison has been given a special operations profile, as opposed to the support profile that an ES class normally has. Due to this the ship has been fitted with a slightly oversized warp core to power ablative armor and a sensor dampening field similar to that used on the BC class. When this field is in play, the ship is harder to target and detect on sensors, however is not visually cloaked. This field uses the ship's primary shield emitters and reduces shield power by 30% when in use.

Additionally to reduced the impact of any sort of systems-draining field effects, the James Madison has extensive manual backups on all major control systems; and rather than relying on the standard actuated doors uses manually sliding doors for most doorways. The two blast doors are operated on a hydraulic system, and have both automatic and manual controls. They are located at the entrance to Main Engineering and at the entrance to the main forward corridor from the Common Room.

USS James Madison's warp field emitters have been enhanced to increase cruise and maximum speeds; the torpedos have been modified and enhanced for higher yield. Yield is fixed and non-modifiable, and torpedoes are stored in an inaccessible space meaning that they may not be modified during flight without EVA.
