This is a "reimagined" Torkav, replacing the old one. The primary reason for this OOC is that [the player] wanted to reuse the character's history.
The point of split is before original Torkav took command of USS James Madison.

Personal History

Torkav was born of a Vulcan father and a Klingon mother. The two became mated when Hompaq, a worker on a civilian trade vessel visited a Vulcan orbital facility. During the visit, she and Sorvak were involved in lengthy negotiations for a shipment of a rare mineral across the sector, and she became enamored with him. They had continued contact, although he insisted it was 'illogical' for them to pursue a romantic relationship, and remained close, until on one of her visits he went into pon farr. During this, Hompaq and he mated several times, but of course the mating was non-productive. They married under Vulcan custom, and Hompaq settled on Vulcan with him. Over the next ten years they agreed that they wanted to try to have children, and attempted to do so using a variety of methods, finally becoming successful.

The conception required a certain level of genetic manipulation, however he was born naturally. He was born on Vulcan, where he was raised and educated. He learned Mokbara from his mother and his cousins who would visit, and excelled in tactical execution, although not so much in planning. He was very much a 'boots on the ground' type.

He mastered the Mokbara and Vulcan mental techniques, during his childhood and adolescence.

Torkav had a rough childhood, growing up on Vulcan with his mixed heritage. At age 14 he went through the Klingon Right of Ascension ceremony.

Later in life he performed a variety of jobs, mostly in the trading of information and contraband, or contraband-like items. He later became a mercenary, working for various interests within the Federation, including on occasion Star Fleet itself, but as a civilian.

His first wife, a human woman, was captured and killed by Romulans when he was on a mission. They had four children, all grown. Torkav had little contact with them then or later. He was always off on missions, and they had their own lives.

He married again several years later, to a Valerian woman, and was shortly thereafter captured by Cardassians and imprisoned for 12 years. When he got free of his captivity, he found that his wife and their unborn child had died shortly after his capture.

Torkav later joined Star Fleet, becoming the oldest graduate of the Academy at age 94. His grades were exemplary, with the exception of his psych profile. His psych tests were all passed, but not with the sort of flying colors one might want, partly due to his life history as a freelancer and his Klingon tendencies when things got tough. In the Kobayashi Maru test, which he took 14 times, he almost always sacrificed his own ship to try to destroy the enemy, once going so far as to shoot his helm officer for refusing to ram an enemy vessel. But in the end he got a (barely) passing grade and was graduated.

He worked with the teams rebuilding Star Base 157 and upgrading it to Star Base Delta.

Through the years, Torkav has spent a lot of time continuing his studies of both Klingon and Vulcan ritual, and although he could never achieve Kohlinar, or anything close to it, most of the time he has the emotional control of a typical Vulcan. He meditates daily, and uses his Klingon training mainly for physical exercise and keeping in shape, although it is also useful when he is required to engage in hand-to-hand combat.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Security Protocols, Basic Command Operations, Data Analysis
Academy Minor(s): Starship Tactics, Small Unit Tactics, Data Acquisition, Asset Protection
Hobbies and Pastimes: Mokbara, Crossword Puzzles (3D), Stargazing, Fencing
Short-Term Goals: Get permanent Commanding Officer role on a small vessel.
Long-Term Goals: Eventually retire to Vulcan and possibly work as a high-ranking member of the Vulcan Security Services.
Personality: Dry, very Vulcan, except when the feel of battle gets into his blood, at which time he is VERY Klingon.
Sense of Humor: It is a difficult concept.
Phobias: Fear is illogical.
Likes: Torkav likes warm climates, people who are direct and honest, and battle. Torkav loves the adrenaline rush of battle.
Dislikes: People who lie or withhold information. Cold. Snow. Ice.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People who do not make eye contact.
Bad Habits or Vices: Chewing on his lower lip, especially when thinking about a problem.
Achievements: Learning the Vulcan meditation and mind meld techniques, as well as the famous nerve pinch when an adolescent.
Disappointments: Not being able to achieve the full mental control that his father and friends had.
Illnesses: Klingons do not get ill... except that one time when he got the Allurian Flu, leaving him with small circular scars on his torso.
Strengths: An ability to use his Vulcan mind to focus his combat abilities as a Klingon. He has learned to use both strengths together to make him a very formidable opponent.
Weaknesses: Torkav is sometimes so focused on the problem at hand that he inadvertently ignores those around him.
Fears: Klingons do not have fears.
Prejudices: Andorians. For some reason they just annoy him, possibly because of their tendency toward cold environments. As a side-effect he really doesn't like the color Blue.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Comfortable wrap-around type tops, loose-fitting trousers, soft-soled shoes.
Distinguishing Features: Prominent Klingon ridges and typical Klingon high forehead; Vulcan ears that are sharply pointed, the points slightly longer than most Vulcans.
Pets: None.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: The death of his mother, Hompaq. She was a healthy woman, and died at the young age of 137 standard years in a freak shuttlepod accident.
Best Time: Seeing his children born and raising them. His youngest 2 are still growing up.
Most Crucial Experience: Joining Star Fleet and finally leveraging his skills.
Role Model: Lieutenant Tuvok, and Commander Worf; two individuals he studied extensively. He actually 'met' both although they would never remember it, when they spoke at symposiums.
