Personal History
Born and raised on Luna, Allen had a normalish childhood. His mother worked in security at the New Berlin colony, and his father worked in hydroponics as a plant tender. They were young when they had Allen, recently married.
When Allen was seven years old, he was on a field trip to Mars when he was exposed to a short burst of transphasic radiation, which disrupted the cellular integrity of several of his organs. It left him with delayed reflexes, and slowed his learning process. The damage to his central nervous system was irreparable, or so it seemed.
A year later, his parents were offered an opportunity for an experimental, and somewhat frowned-upon, treatment for their son. They would have to travel off-world for this treatment, as it was not completely legal in the Federation. It involved genetic manipulation of their son. Seeing their son suffering, they took this opportunity.
Three months later, they returned to Luna, their son renewed. His intellect, reflexes, and ability to heal had been enhanced by the treatment. The treatment is not recorded in his files anywhere, and standard DNA scans do not reveal any enhancements, only the restoration of his DNA to “normal”.
Two years later, his parents had a set of twins. Allen is very close to his two younger siblings, who are both alive and well.
When Allen was fifteen he began a sort of Star Fleet ROTC routine, learning all about Star Fleet. He even got to serve as a junior security officer aboard StarBase One (later Star Base Alpha) for a short time. He found a great interest in helping the people of the Federation via Star Fleet, and managed to pass his entrance exam at 16 years old. He had to wait another two years to actually join the Academy.
Allen excelled in his studies, but especially in areas of security, tactics, and information analysis. He didn’t know it, but Star Fleet Intelligence had their eye on him very early. His unique, sometimes bordering on unlawful approach to problems had got their attention.
Shortly after graduation, Allen was assigned to base security on a deep space station. On this base, working in Security investigations, he uncovered a smuggling ring being led by several of his colleagues. Working off hours, on his own, he surveilled them, build dossiers on their activities, and eventually helped get them busted and convicted. He was promoted, and reassigned to duty on a starship.
After serving on several ships over the next decade, he reached the rank of full Lieutenant, and during a shore leave was approached by Star Fleet Intelligence. They furthered his training, and sent him on several operations—some on starships, and some on worlds or bases. He excelled, but always seemed to come just short of what he—and SFI—wanted.
Notably, he once served as a junior security officer on Star Base Alpha. The security department was then commanded by a Commander Derrick Grant, who was also working with Star Fleet Intelligence. Allen and Grant became friends, not knowing the other was also a ‘spook’ until an operation on Earth brought them together. The two stayed close through the years, with Allen working for Grant when he was posing as ambassador to Cardassia shortly before his retirement. Allen lost touch with his old friend after this time, when Grant seemed to disappear from the radar. He knew Grant had not taken to having a duplicate from another universe show up very well, and the man had taken a dark turn over the past several years.
When Allen was thirty-three, he was offered a new position. Star Fleet was fighting a new war against the Romulans, and needed people who could exceed their genetic ‘limitations’, even with the enhanced genetics that Allen had. Star Fleet Intelligence revealed that they knew his full story, and in fact it was part of their reason for recruiting him.
He went through a year of painful and thorough ‘modification’ with a combination of specialized training, nanite injections, and cybernetics to become a super-agent. Much of this technology was developed and derived from Borg technology, only without the negative Borg effects. The advantages manifested in an inability to be read by telepaths, extremely rare but not unheard of as some humans were telepathically dead. His emotions could still be read, but he was trained in controlling them. In addition, his reflexes and strength were further enhanced, and he gained a resistance to poisons and toxins. This was all done to make him harder to interrogate. And the final change was to his senses. Enhancements give him slightly better vision, hearing, and sense of smell, and dampen his ability to feel pain.
The downsides to this are that every 128 hours he must ‘recharge’ via an inductive charging panel for eight hours. This is normally done when he sleeps via a specialized blanket on his bed. If he does not charge, then he loses his abilities, and also may become lethargic and slowed well beyond normal.
Most of his modifications is masked in a standard medical scan, however for those with proper clearance, his full medical file is available.
Following his enhancements, he worked for several years in operations on a team led by Skall Kyber. At the time, he was being presented as an enlisted, however he revealed his true rank and role to Kyber. Kyber became his 'mentor' of sorts, and also his best friend. He and Kyber have worked together on several operations, and have stayed in touch through the years.
He was then assigned to several vessels, some for intelligence purposes, and some in standard roles, to further his training and allow him to blend into standard crews. Included in this was a short stint at a secret base in the Plutonian moon, Cheron, where he worked with the Star Fleet SIS organization before it was disbanded.
His last official posting was as First Officer of the USS Philadephia, a Berlin-class Frigate. He was the First Officer there for almost exactly a year.
He has spent the last six months training and studying to take over the Reciprocity, and in fact, was destined to be her permanent Commanding Officer from the time she was being designed. Solek was, in the end, only there to test the ship and crew for McKinney.
His brother and sister both live on Earth and work in the medical field.
Personality Profile
Academy Major(s): Covert Operations (Intel)
Academy Minor(s): Starship Operations & Command, Basic Piloting, Small Unit Tactics
Hobbies and Pastimes: Study of Terran acting, specifically comedy
Short-Term Goals: Get a stable crew and team together to best accomplish SFI's objectives with the Reciprocity.
Long-Term Goals: Rid the Federation of its worst enemies.
Personality: Serious when needed, otherwise light, rather joke-y
Sense of Humor: Pun-oriented, the worse the pun the more he likes it
Likes: People who can get the job done, and still maintain a positive and light attitude. Chocolate, especially fudge.
Dislikes: Liars, cheats, people who do not act with proper discretion.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People who take unnecessary risks to the mission. People who lack dedication to the cause.
Bad Habits or Vices: When he thinks deeply, he finds himself tapping a finger. Or several.
Achievements: Successfully passing all Star Fleet requirements to command this mission. Learning to fit in as a 'normal person'.
Disappointments: Inability to engage in a personal relationship beyond basic friendship. He has trouble understanding people at an emotional level, despite his 'training'.
Illnesses: None.
Strengths: Genetic enhancements (ala Bashir) for reflexes and analytical ability; cybernetic enhancements to further reflexes and slightly enhacne physical strength. Anti-interrogation modification via nanites to oppose toxins and poisons. Subcutaneous communicator, and telepathy scrambler.
Weaknesses: The technology used requires recharging when he sleeps. His sleeping surface contains inductive charging technology. If the enhancements are not recharged for at least 8 hours every 128 hours, his abilities diminish, and eventually he will become lethargic and unable to move.
Fears: Having the technology within him compromised, hijacked, hacked, or stolen.
Prejudices: Romulans. He was 'enhanced' during the Romulan war, due to belief that super-soldiers might be needed.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Almost always wears dark clothing, form-fitting.
Distinguishing Features: His biggest feature is his lack of features. He literally has a face that blends in and is completely forgettable. Nothing about his physique stands out.
Pets: He keeps a pet cat, named Oliver. Oliver pretty much gets run of the ship.
Friends: Skall Kyber. They met several years ago. (See history.)
Personal Paradigm Shifts
Most Painful Experience: Dealing with the changes made to him, both physically and psychologically, as part of his conditioning and enhancement.
Best Time: His time with his family as a child. He is very close to his parents and siblings.
Most Crucial Experience: Following his recruitment and early career, being assigned a special operations role, and then subsequent recruitment to Star Fleet Intelligence.
Role Model: Commander Derrick Grant (prime), now retired Admiral.
