Personal History

Eleijha V’Tana was born in the small city of Temherifv on Romulus, the only child of a working-class couple. Though her parents provided her with the basics of life, they were poor and weren't able to offer her the advantages that most children had. Her early childhood was hard and lonely. Both her parents worked, and she was raised mainly by her disabled forefather, a veteran of the Imperial Navy. He passed away when she was ten, and she was left on her own for most of the day when she wasn't in school and while her parents were working. When she was twelve, her parents were able to save enough money to open their own business, a small bakery, and V’Tana worked there as a teenager, helping to run the store.

Spending her free time on the streets after school and after work, V’Tana was often in trouble with the law for fighting and petty theft. Afraid she’d turn to more serious criminal activities as she grew older, her parents decided to send her to military school. Enrolled in one of the less expensive and less prestigious academies, she rebelled against the school’s authorities at first and was almost expelled, but the patience of one of the staff members helped to turn her around and to convince her that she could accomplish almost anything in her life if she applied herself hard enough. She began to follow the school’s program, and she ended up graduating at the top of her class.

Deciding to follow in her forefather’s footsteps, she applied for admission to the Imperial Military Academy. Her status at her secondary school and her above average scores on the entrance exam helped secure her acceptance. She worked hard during her years at the Academy, studying tactical combat and military theory. She finished near the top of her class and attracted the attention of Dhielan, commander of the RIS Akhiylliahr, who had her assigned to his vessel. She became a member of his security staff, and his lover, until his mysterious death two years later. V’Tana was then promoted to Erein and transferred to the RIS Dark Eagle, where she was given the position of head of security.

V’Tana spend six years aboard the Dark Eagle, rising in rank to Arrain. Rumors ensued of her subsequent involvement with the Dark Eagle’s commander, Enriov Menik, a man known to have a long-standing argument with her former commander and lover, Dhielan, and she developed a reputation as a femme fatale. Despite her link to both captains, V’Tana worked hard to earn her position and to earn the respect of those under her. She became known as a tough department head, but also someone who would be fair. Those in her command often feared her. She could be harsh when she felt it necessary, but she also never demanded more than what her staff could realistically give her.

When the Dark Eagle’s first officer, Wraet, was given his own command, on the RIS Ssedehraet, he offered V’Tana the position of first officer. She accepted, spending five years under him and earning several commendations during skirmishes with the Gorn. Her actions caught the attention of the higher military authorities, and with Menik’s recommendation, she was promoted to erei'Riov and offered command of her own vessel, the newly-commissioned RIS Shadowhawk.

The Shadowhawk was called into action soon after its launch, not even being allowed to complete its shakedown cruise. Joining a task force led by Enriov Tei, the ship fought in the battle for Lloann'mhrahel Starbase 157 at the beginning of hostilities with the Federation, destroying an enemy heavy cruiser but also getting caught in the shock wave of its warp core explosion, which triggered the Shadowhawk's structural integrity to fail and caused its own warp core to implode. The ship was sucked into the resultant black hole, and all the crew were lost. A freak occurrence, however, involving the creation of several black holes, caused a slip in time, returning the Shadowhawk, and the rest of the ships involved in the battle, to a moment prior to the fatal blow delivered on the Lloann'mhrahel vessel, and V'Tana chose to retreat, hoping to avoid a repeat of the disaster. The fleet soon followed her example, with Enriov Tei temporarily using the Shadowhawk as his flagship after the destruction of his own. During the battle, V'Tana lost her first officer, Khaiell. She chose her new first officer, Domaere, from a group of survivors rescued from another ship.

Upon journeying to Hdrael 41 with the rest of the fleet, for repairs, V'Tana renewed an old relationship with Kahrihl, the chief of the station's shipyard facilities. She refused to commit to Kahrihl, however, believing that her service to the Shiar was more important than her own happiness. The two continued to remain close, but V'Tana made it clear that her career came first.

After repairs were completed, the Shadowhawk resumed its shakedown cruise before being given its permanent assignment. During the cruise, the ship received a distress call from what turned out to be a secret Tal'Shiar biological research facility. The facility had fallen victim to a pathogen of its own creation, and the Shadowhawk crew were asked to help find a cure. V'Tana reluctantly agreed, unsure about trusting the Tal'Shiar. The Shadowhawk medical team was successful in creating a solution and saving part of the facility's crew, though in the process, Domaere fell victim to the disease. V'Tana had lost her second first officer in as many missions, and it affected her both personally and professionally. She'd never allowed herself to get close to her shipmates before, but upon becoming a commanding officer, she'd begun to feel a sense of personal responsibility towards her crew. The loss of Domaere signaled a slight shift in her attitude, and she started to think of her crew more as people, not just soldiers. That made it all the more harder for her to deal with any further loss.

The mission also signaled a shift in her view of the Tal'Shiar and her own power base. Cooperating with the facility's commander, she destroyed the station and ferried the remaining personnel to Hdrael 41. For her to willingly allow any Tal'Shiar officers on her ship was a major compromise to her beliefs. She'd never placed any trust in the organization previously, and she'd rejected any cooperation with it. With Tei's power in the Empire growing however, and the influence of her mentor, Menik, beginning to wane, she opted to start making allies of her own outside of Menik's faction, starting with the Tal'Shiar facility's commander.

Personality Profile

Academy Major(s): Tactical Combat and Military Theory
Academy Minor(s): Psychology
Hobbies and Pastimes: Games of strategy and physical conditioning. V’Tana isn’t much of one for relaxing, though when she needs to unwind she often listens to music and reads
Short-Term Goals: To make alliances and develop her own power base outside of her benefactor, Enriov Menik
Long-Term Goals: To rise in rank to Enriov
Personality: V’Tana comes off as rather serious and stern to most of those around her. She rarely laughs or smiles when in the presence of her crew. She expects everyone to do their job and to do it well. She isn’t tolerant of incompetence, and she only accepts failure if it’s clear that someone has done their very best. Many see her as tough, but she’s also extremely fair. She's earned her rank and position in the military, and she doesn’t believe anyone should be handed anything on a silver platter. She also understands the plight of the common people, and she’s willing to give someone who’s struggling a helping hand, just as she'd once been given by her mentor at military school. She’s a woman who views combat as the most appropriate solution to a problem, and as such, science often gets the short straw under her command. To those she considers friends, she shows a very different side, being more relaxed and forgiving
Sense of Humor: Though she rarely shows it to her staff, she has a keen sense of humor, favoring satire
Phobias: None
Likes: Romulan ale, efficiency, combat
Dislikes: Practical jokes, lazy people, seafood
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People who abuse their privileges
Bad Habits or Vices: V'Tana is a workaholic. She's almost always on duty, even when she's not.
Achievements: Being accepted in the Imperial Academy. Earning her own command

Weaknesses: V'Tana can come off as harsh to most people, and she can seem cold and distant, which affects her personal interactions with her crew
Prejudices: V'Tana believes that Romulans are superior to all species. She especially hates Gorn and Klingons
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Dark colors. She almost always wears slacks or pants. It would be rare to catch her dressing in a feminine manner, at least not in front of her crew.
Distinguishing Features: Relatively pretty, when she's not scowling.
Pets: None
Friends: erei'Riov Kahrihl, Head of Engineering for Hdrael 41. The two served together on the RIS Dark Eagle and have at times been romantically linked

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Losing a close friend in combat. She now finds it difficult to get close to those she works with, afraid she'll lose them some day also. The loss of her initial two first officers on the Shadowhawk has only complicated that fear
Best Time: Destroying two Gorn vessels in a single battle while first officer of the RIS Ssedehraet
Most Crucial Experience: After her parents sent her to military school, she was almost expelled due to her unruly behavior. One of the staff members befriended her and took her under his wing, teaching her to put her energy into more productive endeavors. She wouldn't be where she is today without his help
Role Model: Her forefather, who served the Empire well in the Galae s'Shiar and never complained of the injuries he received that forced him to retire
