Alpha Majoris, also known as Alpha Ursae Majoris, or Dubhe, is a star system within the Milky Way’s Alpha Quadrant.

The star system is approximately 122.8 light years from Sol (Earth). Its average apparent magnitude, as viewed from Earth, is 1.8, and its absolute visual magnitude is -1.1, making it about 231 times brighter than Sol. Its primary star is an orange giant with a stellar classification of K0 and an average temperature of about 3,775 degrees Kelvin. The stellar classification of its secondary star is K; tertiary, F; and quaternary, A. (See also the Astronomical Terms Database.)

Planetary System

The Alpha Majoris star system hosts an inhabited planetary system with no less than two planets. Alpha Majoris I, the first planet within the planetary system, is the homeworld of the Mellitus, a ghostly “cloud creature.” Despite the creature, the founding members of the planet’s humanoid inhabitants were Humans originating from Earth.

Even as early as circa Stardate 17000, commercial travellers recognized Alpha Majoris I as a convenient stopover.

Stardate 20905.02, Federation News Network, 13th edition, published in its “Travel the Galaxy” column an article, written by Editor-in-Chief Rachel Christie alias, Artemis Walker, daring its readers to visit Alpha Majoris I, despite the Mellitus scare.
