Personal History

Areinnye was born into a life of privilege. Her family has served in various political and governmental positions for several generations. She attended the finest schools and was given the best of everything by her parents. As a young girl, Areinnye studied music. Her parents had hopes she would become an accomplished musician, and she seemed to have a natural talent for it. Her dreams of a successful career in the arts though were crushed at age twelve when her mother suddenly fell ill with an incurable degenerative disease. Arreinnye was forced to devote much of her time over the next year to helping her father take care of her mother. Her musical practice suffered, and she became fascinated with the medical profession.

Her mother's eventual death left Areinnye emotionally drained. She had been close to her, and now she was without her guidance. Her father, finding himself without a son and with two daughters to raise alone, decided that Areinnye should be the one to uphold the family's tradition of political service. Instead of continuing her musical education, he sent her to an elite private boarding school famous for turning out Senators, Praetors and high-ranking military officials. She was unhappy with her father's decision and was miserable at school. She began to rebel and often found herself in trouble. She was once threatened with expulsion, though her father paid off the school's administrator to keep her in. While at school, Areinnye developed a friendship with Jaeih Kaenmie, a girl of the same age whose father served in the Tal'Shiar. Jaeih was equally as rebellious, and the two girls developed a reputation as troublemakers. Their friendship continued after they graduated, and the two became noted for their excesses

Concerned with his daughter's antisocial behavior, Areinnye's father planned to reign in his daughter's wild side. He arranged for her to attend the Imperial Academy, hoping that service in the military would help her find direction in life. Areinnye resisted at first, though she finally relented when her father threatened to cut her off from the family's wealth. She enrolled in the medical division of the Galae s'Shiar, believing it to be the easiest of the branches. As she began her studies, she found her fascination with the medical field reawakened, and she decided to take the full training program to become a doctor. Her hopes were to serve out her term with the military in order to satisfy her father and then to return to civilian life. The monetary reward of being a doctor excited her just as much as the actual practice of medicine.

Areinnye graduated near the top of her class and was stationed on Hdrael 41 (Starbase 41) at her father's request. He knew that the prospect of war was looming, and he didn't wish for her to be assigned to a ship that might see battle. Areinnye's rebellious nature and her often poor attitude failed to endear her to the station's Chief Medical Officer though, and when approached by the commander of the RIS Shadowhawk to reassign one of her own medical staff to the station, he offered Areinnye in trade. He knew that the only reason the battle cruiser's commander would want to rid herself of a doctor would be because she'd had trouble with that doctor. Areinnye would be a fair trade, he believed, and he was glad to get rid of her. Thus she was reassigned to the Shadowhawk, much to her own dislike.
