A fullgrown female Valerian wolfhound.

The Valerian Wolfhound is found in the wild only in the equatorial regions of the planet Valeria, however they are widely domesticated by Valerians and some other species. They are noted for being short-tempered and surprisingly strong and viscous when threatened or attacked.

Physiology

Valerian Wolfhounds grow to 24” long, and 10” tall at largest. A fully-grown female can weigh as much as 18 kg, even though they don’t appear any larger than the picture. They are always a white-gray range of coloring, have long fluffy fur, and bright blue or gray eyes.

Valerian Wolfhounds, like their humanoid counterparts, are fully genetically compatible with their Terran counterparts; and also are accustomed to a climate of -20c to +10c. Anything over 20c tends to make them uncomfortable, and over 30c can be deadly.

They also have about the same intelligence as Terran canines.

Behavior

Unlike their genetic sibling, the undomesticable Valerian Wolf, which is nearly ten times this size, the Valerian Wolfhound tends to be friendly to Valerians and humans, however less so to Cardassians, Romulans, Klingons, and most other alien species. A well trained Valerian Wolfhound will rarely attack unless directly threatened or ordered to.

Their attacks come via a leap and biting, usually at the neck of their foe, and Valerian Wolfhounds have an amazing physical strength, especially in their hind legs and jaw. An attack is deadly unless stopped very quickly.

Valerian Wolfhounds eat similar substances to Terran domesticated canines, however their appetite tends to be much higher.

Their sleep habits are also limited, with them needing only 3–4 hours of sleep per day in the wild—less when domesticated.
