Personal History
Zephyr Praise was born as the youngest daughter to her father Griffin and her mother Apreeza Praise. Her parents had met while her father was on a mission on Betazed and soon became enamored with one another. Her mother had been going through her Phase and believed that Griffin was the man for her. Thus, they had gotten together. Apreeza visited him frequently when she could on his ship and when he had leaves he would spend them on the planet. It wasn't long before a more permanent relationship was made, they got married.
Elysium and Olexina were born some time there after. Elysium being the oldest and while all the girls are only half Betazoid they all have fairly astute empathetic powers. Apreeza wished to raise the girls on Betazed and so she remained behind as Griffin went back to his ship and visited when he could.
Zephyr herself was an accident. Not really feeling the need for another child it was on a visit to the ship that Zephyr was concieved and ten months later born on Betazed.
From an early age, Zephyr was always the kind of girl that was enamored with the world around her. More interested in being outside than in when she was even a baby. Every time she was fussy and would cry unconsoleably her mother would take her outside and instantly the girl was happy again. As Zephyr grew older, her love for the outdoors would only grow more and more pronounced. Flowers were constantly brought home in her pockets. She would draw pictures of two flowers put together into a different flowers. Trying to determine what the new plant would be like. What properties would be gained and lost with the merge.
Her father was often away. But, when they could the family would go onboard the ship where he worked and they would travel for a few days so that all the girls could get time with their father. It was then that Zephyr fell in love with life on the ship. Hydroponics. Botany. Explorations of planets never before explored! Meeting new plants, flowers, and life that had never been seen by humans as of yet! The exciting world only became even more so as she visited him throughout her life.
She was constantly caught exploring outdoors even when she was supposed to be at home or in school. The only school classes that she really loved were those that dealt with biology and the life of plants around her. The rest, were a waste of time and often she skipped them until she got into trouble for doing such things.
It was this that ended up with her getting the large scar that goes up her left forearm. She was out exploring the cliffy outcropping that wasn't too far from the school where she was supposed to be. A flower that she had never seen before caught her eye. Climbing up to a height that she had not reached before she reached up for the flower. Right hand holding her body up. Feet planted in the side of the cliff. Her foot slipped as she hoisted herself up the last few inches to grab the flower that against all odds bloomed by itself on the cliff top. Just as her fingers snapped closed on one of the petals she fell the cliff biting harshly into her arm as she fell. Zephyr knew that getting caught would mean the end of her explorations. Cleaning the wound as best as she could with her under shirt she wrapped it up and stole herself home to bandage it up.
Zephyr's sister Elysium was of a medical inclination and had been bringing Zephyr to work with her for some time when school was not in session. Zephyr wasn't always eager, she preferred her plants but Ely showed Zeph that there were things in medicine that even a plant could fix. One didn't always have to use chemicals and other artificial products, she had to only think outside the box and remember the tools that she had to work with. Zephyr went to her garden and pulled out some leaves of a plant that had antiseptic properties and treated her own arm hoping to save herself from punishment. It did not work though, and she later learned that the plant while helpful could not combat the bacteria she had gotten into it washing it in open water. Of course, when she finally came clean, the burning and itch told her that she had an infection, she found herself in trouble. She was banned from going to the forest for a while.
After that, to avoid such further agonizing punishments Zephyr reapplied herself to school. Finding if she did it just right she could put a natural spin on just about any subject. Making school far more interesting for her. During the afternoons, since she was not allowed in the forest any longer she would follow Ely to work and she began to learn the medical world around her. Learning not only how to apply plants to medicine but how to fix a lot of the minor wounds and injuries and how if she could not fix them how to triage them temporarily until someone with more knowledge could step in. Zephyr missed plants but she found that she loved medicine as well, she found that she loved helping and being with the people and found that passions came in many shapes and forms. She knew that one day she would love to take her love for Botany and her joy for helping people and put them together into one profession.
Once, she was allowed back in the forest, she began to split her time with her walks in the forest and working at the hospital with her sister. Both of them had become special to her. On one of her many trecks outdoors she had found a tiny baby owl with a broken wing and a bleeding leg laying and crying in the shadow of a large tall tree. Even though she had never truly been interested in animals like some of her other family members, she had found that she could not let him cry and lay in pain. Zephyr quickly created a splint out of some wood and used the fabric of her shirt to tie it around the little owl. She had never set a bone she would need Ely's help and so she ran home with the owl tucked against her chest and rushed to her sister. Ely and Zephyr worked together to keep the little owl calm and get him back to health. They got the bone set and wrapped him in gauze. Zephyr fed him from her hands until his wing was better. When she went to go let him go, back into the wild he refused to budge and Zephyr ended up with a pet.
It was when she was thirteen that she started working on entering the Betazoid Science Convention. All children and teens could enter. Those that were still in school and so eagerly she threw herself into work and came up with something she thought was amazing. A hybrid plant. The hybridiation of an apple tree and a bonsai tree. Turning out to be a fruit bearing tree that needed little water and was built to sustain itself in harsher temperatures. Turning it in and excited.. expecting a win she was devestated with third place. Three years she tried and failed to win. After that she was no longer in school and unable to compete. She doesn't like to talk about her second and third place awards. They are not something she is all that proud of.
It should have been first.
After her failures she knew what she wanted to do. StarFleet. It was the only answer. She would be known. She would find a way to be the best Botanist out there. Throwing her passion into the Starfleet was her next life goal. Make a name for herself. Be someone's mentor.
USS Intrepid, CA-1708
After graduation, Zephyr was assigned to the USS Intrepid. She dove into her work quickly. It was lonely being so far away from everyone she cared about especially Ethan. The boyfriend she had met in the Academy. She spent her time on the Intrepid at the end of the Krynar war. Her own ship was boarded and in her efforts to seek out the enemy she ended up succumbing to a mental attack by the Krynar. Afterwards, Zephyr knew that if the opportunity came she would leave Intrepid to be closer to Ethan.
USS Avenger, CA-1500
She didn't have to wait long before she heard wind of a position open on the USS Avenger. The very same ship where Ethan was stationed as an Engineer. She sent in her transfer paperwork and was quickly accepted into their Science Department underneath the Head Science Officer, Tucker. She and Tucker became somewhat friends as Zephyr settled into her new surroundings.
Of course, her first day on the Bridge a comment that she made ended up with a gun pointed in her face. One Jennifer Braggins was apparently pissed off and was dealing with a recent loss of a ship she had served on. However, somehow Zephyr and Jenny ended up turning what could have been a life long feud turned into a friendship. The two began to spend more time together and found that despite being polar opposites they fit well together.
A best friendship was born. Jenny and Zephyr are nearly inseparable always looking out for each other and teaching each other the things they are well versed in.
It wasn't long before Zephyr was put on an away team on the Avenger and sent planet side. Jenny was her commanding officer and the crew consisted of other friends that she had met on the ship. The whole thing was a bust. Zephyr worked so hard to collect her samples and try desperately to find answers that just weren't there. Dejected the crew returned to the ship and found a new being. Zephyr became the communications liaison between this so called 'Wanderer' and the rest of the crew. In the end, a understanding couldn't be reached and the Avenger attacked the Wanderer in efforts to save the crew.
Before he left, once more Zephyr underwent a painful mental attack. All ready emotionally and mentally spent Zephyr's mind shut down slightly and she is working with the doctor to open herself back up again. The Wanderer left behind a gift for Zephyr allowing her to actually speak into a mind that was open to her. Allowing her use the telepathic parts of her mind usually closed off to her because of the neural pathways opened by the Wanderer.
Ethan took Zephyr on a cruise to Tabila Minor and ended up proposing to her. Of course she said yes and they spent the rest of the cruise with her and his families.
The Gettysburg next mission, after the Avenger was destroyed, she was sent down on a training mission. She was in the midst of it when she fell and was knocked out.
Zephyr was given the opportunity to transfer to the USS Dauntless and took it. She left messages behind for Tyra and Jenny knowing they wouldn't understand and that they would think she was betraying them but it was just a move. She wished to find herself, to stand alone it was a move to rocket her into herself. She hoped it would be a good one.
USS Dauntless CA-1553
She got onto the Dauntless and was given the Chief Science officer position. She found Crystillin, an old friend, had transferred as well at some point and they were off on a mission. The mission was a crazy time warp adventure and when they finished, Zephyr was shaken. Deaths always took their toll on her but this one had been shocking and unexpected.
She and Crystillin bonded over some heavy drinking and mind melding allowing them to bond mentally and be able to communicate without speaking to one another. Which was before the Botanical Garden incident which was a massive accident. Her co-worker Nator 159 a Hermat, had gone psychotic and lost his mind. Attacking a Vulcan worker and killing him out right. She dealt with an angry plant beast, a crazed Hermat, a angry Romulan, and still managed to get them all out to safety.
Afterwards, she felt alone and really felt that she needed Ethan to be there for her. But, he was not able. Having been transferred to an unknown location. She felt alone, and abandoned. Asking for time to heal her wounds, Ethan left without any correspondence. She called her old Captain and friend Tyra who helped her find the will to reinvent herself.
She added a tattoo and a three tailed fox named Ember. The Dauntless crew was shifted to the Pegasus and the next mission began.
Personality Profile

Hobbies and Pastimes: Studying. Often times you will find the girl that hungers for knowledge reading and devouring everything she can on any subject that is not yet well versed in. Most often however, something that has to do with plants and the lives of them.
When she's having a problem that she cannot work out you will often find her running. On a track, on the holodeck, anywhere that she can clear her mind and let her brain work out things while she keeps her body busy.
She loves to grow her own plants. Trying to hybridize new plants all the time to see what she is able to get with cross-species plants.
Short-Term Goals: Achieve the rank of Lieutenant like her father.
Long-Term Goals: Redesign Hydroponics to better sustain plant life aboard ships and inside buildings. Her larger goal than that is to create a plant through hybridization that could assist the redesigned hydroponics system, possibly by creating a more natural flow of water or increasing the absorption rate of the fluid component.
Personality: Zephyr seems almost at times to have two personalities depending on what she is doing when you meet her for the first time. If it is when she is just on the ship, doing her normal things, on her off times, in the cafeteria .. you will find that she is funny and sweet. She loves to have a great conversation and enjoys having fun. Even if half the time you see her she will have her nose in a book, or be lost in thought, if y ou bring her attention to you, you will find that she is a great conversation holder. She loves to meet new people. Pick their brains for ideas, hoping that they will jog her own ideas and thoughts.
However, when she is in the middle of a big project you will find it hard pressed to get her attention. Single-minded when it comes to her projects she is the kind of girl that will lose herself in them for days. Even going as far as needing to set alarms to remind her that she has an actual job that she has to go to. It's not unlike her to completely forget to eat or sleep when she has sudden inspiration.
Sense of Humor: Zephyr loves to laugh and have a good time. Even at her own expense. She is not incapable of laughing at herself. Often times, she'll make jokes up about herself, especially when she gets lost in her work and someone has to make her come up for air.
Phobias: She is afraid of dark enclosed spaces. One or the other seems fine, but when it is both, she starts to panic. Often she will start reciting plant based scientific names to try to stay calm. She is also afraid of spiders. Especially the baby ones.
Likes: Laughter, reading, food. Enjoys learning and exploring. Loves to research and develop new ideas. Zephyr loves being around people, challenging herself constantly, and finding reasons to laugh even at herself on a daily basis. Her favorite color is purple and her favorite flower is a lily. She enjoys swimming and stargazing when she has the time for it.
Dislikes: Zephyr hates to be interupted when she's in the middle of a large project. When people try to hide their true feelings. She hates to be proven wrong and really hates it when people treat her like she's an idiot. She hates pickles, and thinks salads are a complete waste of time.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People that judge intelligence based on sex or appearance. People that interupt.
Bad Habits or Vices: Tends to bite her fingernails to the quick when she is lost deep in thought. They're never going to win any awards. She forgets t sleep and eat when she's deep in a project and often has to be reminded to even go to work if it isn't all ready work related. Obsessive compulsive when it comes to work. She also has a bad habit of trying to read the emotions of people that she knows are lying to her to get a better feel for what's really going on.

Disappointments: Not winning the convention. Not having yet proven to accomplish something that no one else has yet. Not being known yet for anything she's done under her own power. (Third place, was an epic disappointment in her book)
Illnesses: Nothing outside of her normal childhood illnesses.
Strengths: Strong work ethic. The ability to work beyond the need for food and sleep. Single-minded determination and a thirst for knowledge.
Weaknesses: Some of her strengths are weaknesses. Without food and sleep she tends to start to get frazzled which pissed her off enough that she keeps pressing forward until she just passes out where she's standing having taken her body too far. She is great with people, but if a guy flirts with her she tends to be a little shy as she's not used to such things overall.
Fears: Spiders (baby ones especially) and disappointing herself and others. Being incapable of changing the world and making an impact at all.
Prejudices: Not really a prejudice but cyborgs give her the creeps.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Most of the time she prefers to be comfortable. Pants, denim usually. Sweaters, tshirts, and a few accessories when she is able to dress down. Comfortable shoes and often fun colors in varying ranges of the spectrum.
Distinguishing Features: A small set of tattoos on the back left nape of her neck. One for each area of expertise she finished in school. One long pink scar running up her left arm from a freak accident when she was a child. Large purple floral tattoo on her left shoulder that her best friend Jenny drew for her and she had it put on her body after a large life style change.
Pets: Artemis, a three tailed Betazed fox, and Imzadi a gift from her ex, an owl.

Personal Paradigm Shifts
Most Painful Experience: Losing, (in her mind), the Betazoid Science Convention three years in a row. Working hard to make something that she thought and knew was absolutely amazing only to have it labeled in such a low way.
Best Time: Being able to go to the StarFleet Academy. Knowing that with the right education, the right abilities, the right work ethic she would be able to change the world. The acceptance into the academy is by far her current best achievement.
Most Crucial Experience: Her first hybrid seedling. Mixing a apple tree seed and a bonsai tree seed, pairing their genes and abilities. Creating a smaller apple tree that could sustain itself on less water through her hybrization process. Thus earning her entrance and the second place standing at the Convention on her planet.
Role Model: Her father, for giving her the belief and knowledge that through hard work she would be able to make a difference. For always believing in her. For never treating her like a child but instead allowing her to observe and at times take part in things that he thought she could handle. For being her number one supporter.
