Personal History

Eun Ju was born to the Han family as the youngest sibling and only female. Eun Ju was born, like her siblings, on the ship her parents served on at the time the USS Pearl Harbor. Her mother, a full Betazoid, served on the ship as a Medical officer while her father, a human, served as a tactical officer. The two had three children together; Jun Ho, Su Jin, and finally Eun Ju. Their ship was too small to hold a family, much less, one of three children so as each child was born they were sent to Seoul to be raised and live with their halmoni, or grandmother.

Eun Ju missed her parents a little, but she knew no other way of life. Her halmoni was strict but kind and raised the children with the highest standards. The siblings were sent to the best schools and held to high standards throughout their childhood. Jun Ho quickly began to seek interest in all things scientific and began to dive deeply into chemistry and eventually became a biochemist. Su Jin followed in his mother’s footsteps and began a medical track as soon as he could begin to pick his own courses in school. However, Eun Ju surprised them all by being the one that was most interested in how and why things moved. Her joys in life even as a young child was to see how she could make things go faster, further, and with less effort. She was constantly caught taking propulsion systems apart, putting them back together, and finding ways to optimize their output.

All throughout school Eun Ju found herself enjoying the courses that were more about hands on learning and engineering became her passion. She consumed all the courses that she could and even begged her halmoni to sign her up for classes after school as well. Finding passion contagious her grandmother signed her up for everything she could to help Eun Ju on her path. Eun Ju also found as she entered middle school that her mind was often too busy at night to sleep and so she began to go jogging and eventually took up running in the evenings to burn out energy as well as to allow her mind to calm itself so she could sleep. She also found that when she was bored giving her hands something to do was beneficial and began to take up jewelry making as a hobby which also helped her fine tune the muscles in her hands and wrists to make them stronger for her larger work and practices at school.

During middle school Eun Ju also found a Professor at Seoul University who had been a Starfleet officer at one point but retired to teach in his older years. His name was Niko Nakamara and he was filled with stories from the Engineering deck of his old ship. Walking her through problems, how they had been fixed, and allowed her to sit in on some of his classes so long as she didn’t participate or disrupt. He was always tasking his class to come up with better solutions than he had for the problems he had experienced on his ship. Enjoying the challenge Niko Nakamara gave to them, she threw herself into the problems coming up with her own innovative solutions which she sent to Nakamara.

During high school she continued to study under Nakamara when she could and take her classes at school in the hopes of testing into the Starfleet Academy. Eun Ju was very excited when she scheduled her exams and looked forward to the day she would be able to tackle them and hopefully gain entrance into the academy. However, on the morning she was to take the exams she woke up to find that her halmoni had slipped away in the night. Grief washed over her as the only mother she had ever truly known had passed away. The days long grieving process began, her brothers came home to help her through it, and they all rallied together to send halmoni off in the Korean way.

Forced to sell the home that Eun Ju and her halmoni had been living in, she moved in with her eldest brother briefly until she could get a new exam date and hopefully would make it this time. Waiting was the hardest part for Eun Ju but she was finally able to take the exams and when the acceptance letter came in stating she was an Engineering Cadet they all celebrated. All three siblings went out on the town, celebrated, until they were drunk and hardly made it home. Thus Eun Ju was packed up and left her brother’s home outside Seoul to enter the Academy and make all her dreams come true.

In the Academy itself, Eun Ju settled quickly into the busy life of a student having been groomed her entire life by the stout Korean educational system and the harsh demands from her halmoni. Her room mate Andromeda Marshall and her became quite close. While they were both engineering cadets they were studying different parts of engineering. Andi was much more about programming and computers and Eun Ju still liked to push things to the max. The two became great study buddies and eventually best friends. Both of them were very social people and enjoyed going to small parties, study get togethers, and other fun happenings on the Fleet campus during their time. Eun Ju struggled at times when it came to her phaser training in the beginning but with a lot of effort and some help from a few tutors who happened to be really good at it, she was able to be at least decent enough to pass. Andi and Eun Ju would end up graduating the academy together, ready to head out for the stars.
