Personal History
Danka was born on the planet Nivoch, within Federation Space, very close to the Cardassian border , in a small Cardassian colony, where her mother Madora was sent to save shame on her traditional family. Madora was young, pregnant, with no husband. Danka was born the year after the cessation of hostilities between Cardassia and the Federation and a year before the Cardassian withdrew from Terok Nor (Deep Space 9).
After the signing of the Cardassian-Federation treaty of 2370, Nivoch became unsafe. Now part of the demilitarized zone, with the Maquis attacking Cardassian colonies, Madora, fearful of the Marquis and of her own family, made the only choice she had left. She sought protection and asylum with the Federation.
After five years of moving from one refugee facility to another, the day Madora died, they were both accepted as citizens of the United Federation of Planets. Witnessing her mother’s death at the age of 9 stirred in Danka an urge, a desire, a focus beyond her years, and she made a promise to herself that she would do all she could to stop death.
Danka was placed in orphanage on Casperia Prime, a pleasure planet of all places. She showed great aptitude in all her classes and was selected for advanced streaming. Working as a maid in the resorts' of Casperia Prime at night and studying by day, at the age of 17 Danka had won the coveted Bowmainian scholarship to train in any university of her choosing. During these years she met many Star Fleet officers holidaying at the resorts' or who came for conferences.
She graduated Dux of the School of Medical Science at the Academy of Science on Deneb V and went on to further studies in Surgery and Pathology, as well Chemistry. Whilst she was at the Academy of Science she again meet many Star Fleet officers who were also training. This sparked an interest that would be consummated several years later.
It was the end of the first General War and Danka, returning to Casperia Prime in her new role as medical officer for a Regional Hospital, she began to treat military officer badly maimed. She worked several years with a planetary team, together developing ways to help the maimed officers. Through these experiences she realized her services would be better utilized if she where apart of Starfleet.
Danka applied to Starfleet Academy and graduated in 2402 with a major in Cosmetic Surgery. She was assigned to the USS Yamamoto just in time for the second Federation-Romulan war and the Borg invasion. Danka served on the USS Yamamoto until her transfer to the USS Dauntless. Due to her work many lives have been saved and many maimed given a semblance of life again. Now with the Krynar invasion her services are again in demand.
Her first Department Head placed on her record these comments, "Dr. Danka Greck is arrogant, annoying, extremely focus and ambitious for her patients and herself, she is hard to get on with and has few if any friends and no bedside manner, but when you need a real doctor, she's the one."
