The Ankari are a spacefaring humanoid civilization, located in the Delta Quadrant.
They have access to warp technology, but instead use a form of propulsion that is difficult for Federation sensors to detect.
They have a great respect for what they refer to as "spirits of good fortune."
In reality, these spirits are nucleogenic lifeforms from another realm, which the Ankari can summon using a summoning beacon.
Seen as a blend of friends and gods, the Ankari call upon these spirits in order to bless certain events, such as births, deaths, and travels.
Prior to 2376, the stranded ship USS Equinox discovered their homeworld, were the natives provided the Federation crew with supplies and food. When they summoned the nucleogenic lifeforms to bless the Equinox's continuing journey, the desperate Federation crew were unfortunately inspired. Catching up with the Equinox, the USS Voyager crew was stricken by the other crew's actions, and as part of their peace deal, Janeway promised the nucleogenic lifeforms the Equinox. The Voyager also had to convince the Ankari that they would not take advantage of the species the same way the Equinox had.
Generally regarded as "good people," the Ankari are gentle in nature.
Fun fact: The Borg designation for the Ankari is "Species 7690."
