    It is the world's first totally electronic programmable computing device.


  • The "Parícutin volcano" begins to appear in a cornfield in Mexico.
    A cinder cone volcano, it surged suddenly from the cornfield of a local farmer, attracting both popular and scientific attention.
    During the volcano's nine years of activity, it was sketched, mapped, sampled, and photographed thousands of times.
    By 1952, the eruption had left a 424-meter-high cone, and significantly damaged more than 233 square kilometers with the ejection of stone, volcanic ash and lava.
    In 1997, it was named as one of the "Seven Natural Wonders of the World."
