Personal History

Yora was born at Starfleet Headquarters on Earth. Her mother was given sanctuary by a group of Officers on a scientific scouting. Her adopted father, Ryasi, was the Captain aboard the ship and was there when Yoru died giving birth to Yora. Feeling somewhat obligated, Ryasi began the paperwork and necessary protocols to bring Yora into his family. It only took a week for the decision to come through to give Yora to Ryasi, and he brought the little girl home to her new family.

Even at a young age, Yora knew that she was very different from anyone else. And although her school was very diverse, she could not find anyone else that even remotely looked like her. None of the other kids minded nor was she a social outcast, but Yora did prefer to work and be by herself. Ryasi and Annaveel noticed that it was very difficult to joke or 'mess around' with Yora, as she was able to remember anything. It wasn't just that she knew of something happening, it was her being able to recall every word, every smell, ever sound from every conversation of any day that had gone by. After speaking with Yora's teacher, her adopted parents found out that Yora possessed an Eidetic Memory, which gave her the power to recall more information about a situation any most did. During the end of her first year in school, Yora suddenly came down with a high fever and chills. She as rushed to the doctor, only to find out that he wasn’t sure what was making her sick and began to give her antibiotics to combat the fever. It took Yora almost a week to get over the fever and chills, but strangely never had a problem after that. Although after the massive amounts of toxins that were put in her body, Yora swore that she’d never take any other form of medicine again. Around the age of 10, Yora was allowed to know about her mother and her people. She began to spend many sleepless nights gathering any and all information she could. She was in shock at how little was actually know and was disgusted by what was known. As her adopted father was the CO of the ship that carried her birth mother, Yora began to ask many questions of him, most of them he refused to answer at first, stating that she was just a little too young to know about all of that. When Ryasi refused to speak about her mother, Yora became very upset and screamed in a rage. She began to through things around the room and Ryasi could only sit and watch, unable to move. Annaveel was in the room opposite at the time and began to experience severe headaches and when it finally clicked in her mind, she ran into the living area, calming Yora down.

Her adopted parents took her to one of the medical experts at Starfleet Headquarters that Ryasi knew. Both of them knew some of the background of female Orion’s, but what happened had seemed like an episode of insanity. The medical officer, Lieutenant Gohal, was able to explain that her animalistic nature is common, but Annaveel's headache and Ryasi inability to move were due to Yora's pheromones. Gohal suggest that Yora could take a formula every morning that he could create just for her. Yora refused however, staying that she swore to herself that she would never take any medicine again. Ryasi said that if she was unwilling to take the medicine, then she would have to see a psychiatrist until she was able to control both of these things, Yora agreed. Yora’s decision to go into Starfleet was prompted by Iverus, her longtime childhood friend. He asked her what she was going to do, to switch she replied that she was unsure. Iverus suggested following her adopted families footsteps and getting into Starfleet. Thinking that it was a good idea, Yora suggest to Ryasi that maybe she could get into Starfleet and see the galaxy instead of spending her life on Earth. Ryasi explained to Yora that because she wasn't taking medicine for her traits, that it would be very hard for her to control herself when she isn't in the relaxed setting of her home. He told her that if she wanted to be in Starfleet that it would be safer if she took the formula that Gohal suggested. Yora was very disappointed, but knew that Ryasi was right, after all the stories he told her, and how the smallest thing had set her off the first time. Yora told Ryasi that she would think about it for a while and find out if it was really what she wanted. Shortly before turning 16, Ryasi asked Yora if she had made her decision yet, as she was getting close the enrollment age for Starfleet. Yora said that it was a hard decision for her, but she knew that going into Starfleet was something she wanted to do, so she agreed to go see Lieutenant Gohal. After a lengthy talk with the Lieutenant, Gohal had a daily formula that Yora could take right after waking in the morning to suppress her pheromones, and in turn, hopefully suppress the animal instinct that she also possessed. To clear her head, Yora took a walk with Inverus, telling him about the formula and how she had to take it every day. Inverus said that sometimes we need to sacrifice one thing to get another. Yora playfully shoved Inverus, causing him to slip on a rock and injure his leg. Yora apologized and began to cry as she helped get the leg patched. Inverus said that it wasn't her fault, but Yora realized that it hurt her emotionally so much that she probably couldn't hurt any living being unless she had to, which lead Ryasi into suggesting Medical above all else. He also commented that she did a good job on Inverus leg. After being accepted into Starfleet Academy, Yora quickly said her good-byes to her family, not wanting to stay long enough to change her mind. She knew, of course, that this wasn't a vacation and that she would have to work her hardest. The only thing she wasn't looking forward to was injecting herself with whatever this formula was for the rest of her career, but it wasn't something that she knew she had to do if she wanted to keep herself and the others around her safe.
