Personal History
Doctor Sherman had spent nearly all of his life in Star Fleet, save for his formative years before the Academy. He was a focused and determined student, with a mind for making a Star Fleet career as an officer a platform to practice his passion: Medicine. He graduated egregia cum laude in his Orthopaedic major, as he pursued cum laude a General Medicine major, and an Exobiology minor – his Trauma surgery major was a last minute add-on, and so was not an honours course.
With such distinction, he was given his choice of post, opening up a wide array of opportunities to stay close to home, and closer to his family. Most might have choose to stay on a Base in the Sol system with such providence, but Gregory decided instead to take an active tour for his first duty.
Serving aboard the USS Defender, Dr. Sherman quickly distinguished himself from the rest of the medical team. While his work was excellent, his bedside manner was often commented upon as somewhat abrasive by some of the officers, while enlisted crewmembers had only praise for the gruffy but spot-on and very compassionate surgeon.
For many years, Sherman continued to work hard, but often turned down promotions in favour of remaining a more active doctor and surgeon, as opposed to more administrative duties. Despite this reluctance and perhaps distaste for rank or prestige, his hard work culminated in a request by the First Officer of the Kepler, a friend from Sherman’s Academy years, to serve as the USS Kepler’s Chief Medical Officer. The move appealed to Sherman, not because of title, position or rank, but because of the Kepler’s mission – to explore as a part of the 204th Exploration Flotilla – and because it was the earnest request of a good friend.
After serving on the Kepler for many missions, Sherman finally decided to move on. Administrative duties on the Star Ship, along with Officer Meetings and other obligations took away from his time to practice Medicine. It was a bittersweet decision, but it was one Gregory knew he had to make in order to stay happy.
Instead, his next transfer was to a Star Base, on the condition that he would be given assistance with the administrative duties that he so despised. While he is not totally off the hook for such “menial” duties, the Star Base and it’s large ever rotating staff does help him stay closer to the “medical action”, which he thrives upon.
Currently, Dr. Sherman serves aboard Star Base Bravo and enjoys the Immense base immensely.
