Personal History

(13) Like most Trill, Koga was very scientifically minded. In school, he focused primarily on computer sciences. He found the tasks and assignments of that nature fairly easy to complete but failed to excel in the curriculum due to spending all his extra time investigating the events surrounding his sister’s death and his father’s imprisonment.

(17-20) While most of his teachers dissuaded him from this path Koga found a mentor named Greyis who helped direct his appetite for algorithmic analysis toward code breaking and hacking. At one point this looked like it may lead to a promising military career but his obsession with the past coupled with his new tools created the opportunity for a series of less than positive experiences with local authorities. Barring him from ever serving in the upper echelons.

(21) With the obstacles of life bearing down on him Koga found himself starving for a fresh start and a second chance. In a fit of desperation, Koga concurrently hacked several databases, deleted/planted information shielding his past from most searches while suppressing any public criminal records. While the damage had already been done locally (you can’t hack people), perhaps he could find a new life for himself among the stars. Thus, Koga submitted his application to Starfleet.

(22-23) Starfleet counsellors had a huge impact on his personal outlook. While at Starfleet Koga found new but more constructive ways of getting into mischief. Writing code for the replicators, altering tactical simulations for more challenge and variety. It was then that he met Thike, an aspiring young weapons expert. The two became fast rivals, a yin and yang. They spent hours pushing each other further; be it at early mornings at the gun range, playing strategy games late into the night or on test scores. Though they were from different walks of life and agreed on little they made each other smarter faster stronger.

(24-26) Koga’s pranks kept Thike on his toes, and Thike was constantly trying to get Koga to keep his nose clean. In the end Thike’s influence can be heavily credited for Koga making it through Starfleet Academy without being expelled. And there’s little doubt in Koga’s mind that he influenced Thike’s ability to crack advanced tactical puzzles. After an arduous final term at the Academy Koga is eager to move on to the next phase of his life.

(30) In Koga’s first year as an Officer He served aboard two ships and has just embarked on a third, Space has not been kind to Koga thus far and he is recovering from recently having his face and arm destroyed by an explosion. The Doctor aboard the Columbia performed emergency surgery that saved his life and replaced his arm and face. Most of the tissue was grown from his own cells but his eyes are cybernetic replacements that provide some advantages but are going to take some getting used to.

Examples of pranks: - Koga knows Thike is a better shot so he rigged Thike’s target to move slightly every time Thike took a shot - Koga would bypass the security to Thike’s quarters and booby trap doors, drawers, lights, even his refresher. - rapidly freezing Thike’s morning tea when he’s not looking, Thike still hasn’t figured out how Koga does it - while playing a season opener game of Parrises Squares Thike’s mallet malfunctioned costing his team the game, Koga denied any involvement but Thike always suspected otherwise.

Pet Projects:

Koga has an uncanny relationship with some of the software he writes and in some cases, treats them like one would a pet:

Sleeve, Koga hated the idea of holding a security tricorder in his left hand while doing security drills and one day taped it to his forearm. From there he had the idea to reconfigure it slightly for comfort and ease of use. With the help of his Roylan Engineer roommate they made a prototype that allows him to scan the surrounding area as normal but keeping his hands free in the meantime.

Dervish, one of his more recent attachments is to his final Project at the Academy. A modified survey Drone roughly the size of a humanoid torso that dodges when aggressed and responds to commands given via the “sleeve”. After it was shot down by a Starfleet Marksmanship Instructor as part of Koga’s evaluation. Koga recovered the downed drone and with the permission of the academy continues to work on it in his spare time.

Parents Status

(0-8) Koga’s parents were avid activists, but as time went on Fon became more zealous and it began to strain his relationship with Rilan, Koga’s mother.

(9-12) It had been building for a while but Rilan eventually left Fon. Shortly after this he was imprisoned for terrorism, following a protest that turned into a riot. It's unclear how involved he was in the actual violence but the trial was quick and the evidence was stacked against him, and in spite of being offered several deals that would shorten his sentence he is still in prison. The strain was incredible and Saysla ran away at the age of 18 seemingly never to see her family again.

(23) Though she’s startled, and slightly appalled, at his sudden interest in leaving Trill, and her, behind to join Starfleet, she does recognize that this could be a positive step and gives him her tear soaked blessing.

(29) Koga’s Mother made the expensive trip to earth to meet up with her son upon Koga’s graduation. It was a proud moment for them both. For the first time in a long time Koga felt like he had done something meaningful

Likes: -Instrumental Music, especially percussion. Automation, Koga feels like drones or programs are an extension of himself. Winning, outsmarting the competition, learning secrets. (and yes he can keep them, the enjoyment is in the collecting not sharing or humiliating)
Dislikes: -Instrumental Music, especially percussion.
Pet Peeves or Gripes: -Theatre. Failure, whether it's his own, his programs, his security, or his subordinates.
Bad Habits or Vices: -spending 30 minutes writing a program to do a job he could have done himself or asked a person to do in 10 minutes. Nothing tastes better than confiscated brandy.
Achievements: When tasked with leading a 4-person squad in an infiltration sim, Koga’s squad not only made the best time, but with zero casualties. It’s worth noting that one of Koga’s squad mates, Thike, racked up 8 simulated kills in that one mission. In the following week it became an ongoing challenge to beat Koga’s time.
Disappointments: Getting caught disarming a simple firewall put a blotch on his record that eventually allowed the authorities to track his stealthier incursions. It was a small hole in a very big damn that would have drowned him had he not disappeared when he did.
Illnesses: Healthy, recovers normally from injuries and sicknesses
Strengths: Academically- Math Physics. Personally- seeing patterns in problems, strategies, and people’s actions. (Not necessarily emotions)
Weaknesses: Academically- Biology and social sciences are a real challenge, they just seem so … messy. Personally- long term relationships, (friendships or romances are often short lived). Task oriented, can sometimes be an *** without realizing it.
Fears: Being bored. Loosing friends, creates a sense of distance on purpose at times.
Prejudices: Intolerant, sometimes disrespectful of people who fail to excel in their post
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Classy but understated, nothing flashy (likes to blend in)
Distinguishing Features: If anything just a little too average looking, (likes to blend in) had facial surgery to alter appearance as part of making a new name for himself. A process that cost someone else a tidy sum of credits
Friends: -Koga’s quiet Roylan roommate Kaasen. Well suited as roommates they know when to respect each other’s privacy. Having both come from backgrounds in which they felt a lack of belonging, these two have established something of a comradery. His old mentor Greyis, though their relationship is arms length Koga still holds him in high esteem. Koga’s rivalry with Thike was probably the closest thing he had to a best friend. They continued to challenge one another in many aspects of life for good and for bad. Don’t tell Thike but Koga thought of him as the sibling he could have had.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Koga had several important catalysts, some good some bad. His Father being arrested was humiliating and pushed him away from other children at school. This is probably the most crucial because it drove Koga to trust technology more than people.
Best Time: Winning feels so damn good, whether it's being the first one to crack a secure database, kicking *** at Parrises Squares, catching someone sneaking around, or leading a squad to victory
Most Crucial Experience: Getting Caught doing what he was best at was a humbling experience for Koga, and the consequences were about to be even more so. Had he not performed the hack of his life in order to disappear, he likely would have gone to prison for many years.
Role Model: Greyis seemed to have things together, and he taught Koga a lot of wisdom during his formative years. While at Starfleet Koga has contacted his mother twice in five years and was extremely careful about doing so. Greyis on the other hand he contacted on seven occasions.
