Plasma rifle

A plasma rifle is a larger, more powerful version of the Phaser rifle.
It uses plasma as ammunition, though it cannot hold as much ammunition as its phaser counterpart.

Many species employ the use of plasma weapons, including Humans, Andorians, Jem'Hadar, and Coridanites.
The Jem'Hadar and Andorian versions were known to not have stun settings.

Sometimes also referred to as "pulse rifles", these weapons were the standard issue for large hand-held weaponry on Starfleet vessels in the mid-22nd Century.
These weapons had the capability to fire both plasma bullets as well as a beam that had an adjustable level that ranged from stun to kill.

The Jem'Hadar version of this weapon had the added ability to fire a shot that included an anti-coagulant, which killed the enemy slowly and painfully if the burst itself did not.
The lowest setting was a heavy stun, and the highest setting was vaporization.

Coloration of the plasma rifle's beam/pulse varied depending on the manufacturer or species. Starfleet Intelligence had once classified the plasma rifle as "an assassin's weapon."
