On this Day - May 01 1753 - With the publication of "Species Plantarum" by Linnaeus, the formal start date of plant taxonomy was adopted by the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. 1930 - The dwarf planet Pluto is officially named. 2403 - The USS Yeager, SC-8018 is launched from the Archimedes Shipyards, with Joseph Valiant as commanding officer. 2411 - Captain Gabriel Archer is assigned as commanding officer of Space Station Sierra 18, SS-18.
