Personal History

Kata was born in the Southern Islands of Bajor to a high level politician in the Bajoran Provisional Government and a talented doctor specializing in neurosurgery. She lived a privileged life overall, attending the top schools possible throughout her life. She was an excellent student for the most part, although her vibrant personality was often the cause of friction between her and teachers. However, her exceptional skills in history, strategy and psychology made up for the occasional conflict.

From a young age, she was taught to defend herself because, given Bajor’s history, her father thought it would be best for her to learn should history ever repeat itself in her lifetime. She was taught a variety of martial arts from a number of different cultures. While she never got the hang of phasers until her years in the Academy, she was also skilled with knives and swords during her late teens. The only disruption in her otherwise normal life was the death of her father when she was 11. Her father was one of the most important politicians in the Southern Islands, but even he was unable to solve some of the unrest that had begun to develop in the area due to certain economic issues that had gone unsolved. He was shot and killed with a long range rifle on his way to his office one morning. It has never been discovered who did it, but it had a profound effect on the young girl. Her mother, who’s only tie to the world had been her husband, was quick to leave Bajor following the events, taking her 11 year old daughter with her. They lived with her parents on Earth, her mother was an aide to the Bajoran ambassador there, during this period. It was quite the culture shock for Kata, but she adapted quickly and continued her life as close to normal as possible. When she graduated from high school, she turned towards Star Fleet, feeling that there was no need to return to Bajor as she felt that she was no longer really a part of that society. She first enrolled the Academy with a psychology major in the medical field. However, she quickly found that this path was not to her likings at all; she found that counseling was too subdued of a profession for her likings. She found an alternative in security where she could exercise her love for psychology while not feeling confined by the profession. She graduated at the age of 22 with honors, and was assigned to the USS Gettysburg where she has remained since. She is currently the head of the profiling and investigation division on board.
