1965 – The Mariner 4 satellite's flyby of Mars allowed it to take the first close-up photos of another planet. The photographs take approximately six hours to be transmitted back to Earth.
2003 – The United States government admits to the existence of "Area 51", a US Air Force base at the center of many UFO and alien conspiracy theories.
2015 – NASA's New Horizons probe performs the first flyby of Pluto, and thus completes the initial survey of the Solar System.
