1687 – Isaac Newton publishes "Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica", a three-volume work that outlined his three laws of motion. It is widely considered to be one of the most important scientific works ever written.
1996 – "Dolly" the sheep becomes the first mammal cloned from an adult cell.
