Personal History

Amaterasu or (Tera) was raised on Earth specifically on the Japanese island of Okinawa and moved to Tokyo at the age of 10, when her father who was a stupendous chief moved the whole family there to open a new restaurant, her mother serving the customers, while her father did the cooking, and over the years the restaurant became extremely popular among the people of Tokyo. They named the restaurant, ‘Ichika’ after the family.

Growing up Tera was known to be quirky; she would do science experiments in her room after school, and you would always know when she was home because smoke would come out of her bedroom window on occasion. Tera had a great aptitude when it came to chemistry and astrology.

On occasions Tera would help her mother serving in the restaurant, she liked talking to the regular customers and one was a Vulcan called T’apic, who she got to know well and after a while and her parents felt she was in no danger, would visit him at his house, where she learnt that T’apic moved to Earth when he retired from Star Fleet and that he served on the USS Revolt as its commanding officer, but he never told Ichika why he left Starfleet, he would always say it was classified. On her visits as she was growing up, he would teach Tera about the constellations and various other scientific topics, she enjoyed his company and she felt that he also enjoyed her company from time to time, T’apic never had children nor a spouse and this made Tera wonder if he was lonely, if Vulcans can get lonely.

As she got older Tera expressed to T’apic that she wanted to be a science officer just like he had been, because she didn’t want to be stuck on Earth flipping egg rolls or serving customers for the rest of her life, so she started to studied hard every day wanting so much to get out of being another statistic in her family’s legacy, of course T’apic supported her, but he made sure that this was a path she truly wanted as the world was open to her in so many ways, her parents were hesitant at first, they had hoped that Tera would work with them in the restaurant as she seemed to enjoy it when she was younger. Tera tried her best to defy what her parents considered to be her destiny, she wanted more in life. With the hard work that she was putting in, her grades started to increase, but she wasn’t sure if she would still achieving her goals, but she was going to try, spending most of her teens trying to figure out who she was and if science was really her calling as she had applied for scholarships and had been rejected by several schools, which caused Tera to doubt herself and eventually gave her low self-esteem.

On one visit to T’apic’ place, she was introduced to an old acquaintance of his and after a while of talking she found out that this individual was an instructor at Star Fleet Academy, this gave her the opportunity to asked various questions like ‘what Star Fleet was like’ and ‘what she might need to do if she wanted to join’ and it seemed that this individual had the answers and more, as he pulled up all her details and school reports. T’apic had called in an old favour with this individual and vouched for her, and she was told that when she was old enough that she would have a chance to join Star Fleet and go thought the academy. The news cause Tera’s parents a bit of concern, but after talking to the academy instructor themselves they seemed to come around to the idea, which in turn made Tera happy and concerned or maybe she was terrified and overjoyed, either way she felt a lot of mixed emotions.

When Tera finally turned 18 years old, she completed all the paperwork and was accepted into Star Fleet and now she was sure that this was the right choice, ever since that meeting years ago, she had expressed an interest in joining and hopefully becoming one of the greats.

While at the academy she continued to study hard in the sciences and she even stayed an extra year so she could fall back on Engineering, T’apic had always said to have something to fall back on, and it could not hurt to learn more then you need. Her roommate was a tactical cadet called Qasaxi and they didn’t get on all that well, as Qasaxi wanted to do nothing more than to just pilot ships and to blow stuff up with was in complete contrast to Tera, who wanted to explore and find new scientific wonders and technology, things between then came to a head after a simulation where Qasaxi did a risky manoeuvre and managed to get the ship blown up, which meant that they failed the mission and they didn’t get any score on that simulation, upon returning the their quarters Tera had finally had enough and after a massive shouting match with Qasaxi, she finally decided to go and see about getting a new room assignment, which thankfully was granted.

In her 4th year at the academy, her father called and told Tera of T’apic’s demise, this caused her distress as she had spoken to T’apic every day and given him updates on what she was doing and how her exams where and there had been no indication that there was anything wrong with his health, Tera guessed that T’apic had decided not to tell her of his illness, to save her from worrying about him and giving her more to worry about, as he know she would have a lot on her plate already. This sent Tera into a small depression state and to begin with she buried her head more into her studies and books, over many months she would repeat the same questions in her mind ‘why did he have to die’, ‘why didn’t he tell me he was ill’ and also that she hadn’t been there for him when he needed someone. After a while she realised that being this depressed would be something that T’apic would not have wanted, but she also knew that she would never really come to terms with his death.

After her extended years at the Academy Tera managed to get her qualifications and she was ready for the next stage in life, Tera is now waiting to see what her final exams will be and to see what assignment the academy has in store for her, for now the stars are the limit.
