Personal History

Born of a Terran mother and Bajoran father, Desmond grew up on Bajor living a quiet life with his parents and sister, Marie. While he and his sister took the traditional Bajoran naming convention of family name then given name, their mother kept the Earth tradition of the surname being last. As he got older he began to want to take adventures and grew more restless. He would wake up with the sun and return just as it was setting on long hikes with his sister. Desmond had nothing against the comfortable life he had on Bajor, but both of his parents being retired Starfleet officers who left that life to raise a family had given him the idea to join Starfleet.

While in the Academy he met Henry Swenson, who at first did not get along with him. After their first year together they worked through their differences and became great friends. Henry was assigned to Starbase Charlie upon graduation while Desmond stayed at the Academy to double major in Ship Weaponry and Warp Theory as well as complete his minors.. They've managed to keep in touch since parting ways even spent a shore leave doing volunteer work with the war relief efforts on the civilian medical ship Perpetua.

For most of his career, Desmond spent his time just fitting in and taking what came to him. It wasn't until he had a near-death experience when his shuttle craft lost all systems and he was stranded in space that he realized how much more he could have done. After that he began to put more time into his work, even going so far as to take double shifts. Soon after this new motivation to seize the day Henry sent him news that the USS Sheridan was looking for a new Chief Tactical Officer. Desmond put in the transfer and was granted his request. It was just after being granted this request that his sister graduated from the Academy as Science Officer. The galaxy seemed a little more hopeful and for Desmond, the future never looked brighter.

After the news of the attack on the Academy by the Tabula Rasa, just several months after his sister graduated, he began to lose focus and perspective. In the heat of the moment, Desmond doubted himself and his abilities to perform his duties, and therefore made the difficult decision to forfeit his position and rank so that he could transfer to the USS Philadelphia under the command of Captain Aloysia Yvette. Desmond has begun to assume nothing about his capabilities as many more questions about his personal life have begun to effect his career. While his goals remain the same, much of what Desmond thought he knew to be true were no longer solid foundations for his philosophies to stand upon. His new position as a junior officer was a change of pace, with less responsibility and more time to sort out the finer details; Desmond has only the hope of finding answers to questions he had never conceived before.
