Personal History
Edan was born to Acair and Grizel Balfour in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. His earliest memories were of the lush green grass and deep blue waters along the seaside community of his birth. His father Acair Balfour, a physician and mother Grizel, a historian are lifelong residents of Tobermory where is father has served many years as the town’s primary doctor. Both take great pride in their Scottish heritage, a trait they passed down to their son. Edan had a happy childhood growing up in Tobermory playing in the countryside, sailing and fishing the waters around the Island. In school, his handsome looks, good nature and quick wit made him popular with the other students and his natural curiosity and intelligence made him a favorite of the teachers.
Having completed High School at sixteen, he attended the University of Edinburgh and decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a physician. Staying at Edinburgh, he attended the university’s medical school. After graduation from medical school, Edan wanting adventure and to explore the galaxy decided to join Star Fleet Academy. While at the Academy in addition to the core classes, he continued his medical training specializing in trauma surgery. Upon graduating the Academy, Edan was assigned to the Star Fleet medical facility on Betazed where he met the beautiful daughter of a Betazed Nobleman. Kesanna Elbri immediately captured Edan’s heart. Though he had had many girlfriends, he had never met anyone like Kesanna and quickly fell in love with her. Soon after they were married, Edan was assigned as a medical officer aboard the USS Sagittarius and served aboard it during the First General War.
After the war the Sagittarius was decommissioned and Edan was assigned to Star Fleet Medical in Boston on Earth. He then was assigned to the USS Valley Forge and after its destruction; he transferred to the USS Comet.
Serving with distinction on the Comet, Edan took an assignment on the Star Fleet base on Acamar so that he and Kesanna could spend more time together and start a family of their own. During the invasion by Romulan forces at the start of the last Romulan war, Kesanna was killed and Edan was captured and remained a prisoner of war until hostiles ended.
Returning to Star Fleet Medical for a brief time, Edan was then assigned as Chief Medical Officer aboard the USS Endeavor under the command of Nathanael Lornak. He served aboard the heavy cruiser until it was badly damaged during the initial Krynar invasion.
Though the Endeavor barely survived, the vessel would need several months of refit and the crew was reassigned. Edan took a teaching position at Star Fleet Academy. Deciding that teaching was not for him, he decided to look for a transfer opportunity aboard a ship. That opportunity came when the USS Chin’toka needed a Chief Medical Officer. Edan requested the transfer to the Chin’toka and it was approved.
