The Akritirians are a warp-capable civilization native to the planet Akritiri, located in the Delta Quadrant.
They are a humanoid species, characterized by a slight ridging on their foreheads.
An advanced race with basic interstellar spaceflight, these people are also likely low-warp-capable.
To the best of Starfleet knowledge, a dictatorship controls the planet.
Starfleet encountered this species in 2373, when two USS Voyager crewmembers were accused and sentenced for crimes they did not commit.
As of the late 24th century, the Akritiri people had an oppressive government, and a system of justice that -by Federation standards- was cruel, draconian and inhumane. In this system, once a person is convicted of a crime, the conviction can not be overturned, even if conclusive evidence that proves his innocence is uncovered. The person in question would be sentenced to life in a brutal prison: the Akritirian maximum security detention facility. There, the prisoners were induced to kill each other through synaptic manipulation.
- A violent group called Open Sky acted against the government. Although considered terrorists by the government, they regard themselves as patriots.
The Akritirians had ambassadors to deal with off-world vehicles.
Another position were that of "patrollers," a person who commanded a patrol ship to police the space around their planet.
