Personal History

Born to Lt Katherine Wright, ACOS aboard the U.S.S. Pentonville - NCC 75212, an Intrepid Class vessel, Michael was the result of a one night stand at a nightclub frequented by Star Fleet personnel while Katherine was on leave visiting her parents, where she took the opportunity to meet up with her life long friends for a catch up before being redeployed.

Michael's childhood was fairly standard for a child of Star Fleet, attending the small school aboard the Pentonville, taking advantage of the many planets they visited on their patrol routes to learn about different cultures as well as learning the Federation-standard curriculum. He was still quite young when his teacher recognised his considerable talent for learning new languages rather quickly during their many visits although to his dismay, far from fluent.

Whilst growing up aboard the starship, Michael only had one true friend, Scarlett Cain, they were inseparable pretty much from day one. They got on like a house on fire, doing everything together, almost to the point of ignoring all the other children on the ship. As they got older, Scarlett developed an insatiable appetite for the fine arts, specifically paintings and music while Michael developed a taste for literature, both human and otherwise. His love of language was a huge advantage that took him to new heights as he delved into hundreds of hours of reading in all the spare time he could find.

Through his early teenage years, Michael's love of books was slowly adapted into holodeck novels, he found the immersion into historical and fictional writings alike to be amazing and he could feel and absorb the texts like never before and his personal language tuitions expanded even further just so he could read and holo novel even more books. Although he didn't struggle with school, he soon discovered he did not handle tests and exams too well but he struggled on, mostly passing his exams and annual assessments with a large dose of luck, despite being intelligent enough to not have to panic about any of these tests. Michael at no point ever asked his mum any questions regarding his father, which surprised most people, but he was content with the family he had and he had no plans of upsetting himself or lining up a massive disappointment for him and his mother.

The U.S.S Pentonville, fresh from a refit was deployed to run standard patrols through several Alpha quadrant sectors while testing out an experimental prototype EPS network. It was on its way back to Sol System after its 12 month test run when an unnoticed, degraded EPS conduit from the upgraded systems went haywire and caused numerous problems within the ship, instantly dropping it from warp. The degradation very quickly spread to other conduits of the new network and rendered most of the ship inoperable when out of nowhere, computers and various equipment started to overload and led to a series of explosions that gained exponentially in number and intensity that finally caused a hull breach across four decks and ejecting crew members and debris alike into the expanse before a force field could be erected. The Pentonville was adrift on emergency power reserves and the job of the remaining uninjured crew was to quickly regain control and repair any immediately necessary functions, after which they slowly limped to the nearest repair station where subsequently, they were picked up by a passing Federation transport also heading for Earth. It was shortly after the incident, during the damage reports, Scarlett had been informed that her parents had been killed as a result of the hull breach. The death of Michaels extra parents was a huge blow and even his mum never fully recovered from the loss of such close friends. Without a second thought, Michael's mother took Scarlett in, like she actually needed to, she was already an integral part of their family and on the slow trek back to Earth for debrief, Michael and Scarlett's bond grew even stronger.

Michaels 16th birthday was the day after they got back to Earth and was nearly forgotten about, not that he minded, there were other things on everybody's mind and so he spent the day in almost complete silence with Scarlett, reminiscing over their shared childhood. Over the following weeks, the crew was debriefed and sent on shore leave before receiving new postings and the Pentonville was transferred to a more local space dock, booked for extensive analysis and was dismantled thereafter. The following year was solely for the bosom pair to take some personal time before pursuing any dreams of theirs, to grieve and come to terms with the loss of Scarlett's parents. After a period of reflection and self discovery, Michael chose to follow in his family's long history of security and Scarlett, wishing to expand her love of art, both applied and were granted permission to study at the Star Fleet Academy. Katherine decided at this point to retire from Star Fleet and after a few more months of making sure that Michael and Scarlett were okay in regards to their mental and emotional wellbeing, moved to Risa to live comfortably for the rest of her years, though she did admit to returning to service should the need ever arise.

The years at the academy were long, difficult and arduous, each semester harder and more drawn out than the last. Michael soon gave himself a small, steady, routine which he could do daily, in order to cope. A brief routine consisting of several cups of coffee, various methods of exercise for at least an hour to be followed by fifteen minutes of meditation. His routine was only ninety minutes, it was deliberately so, so it could be done at any time of the day, but he had to do it at least once a day, although this proved to have adverse effects because if his routine was missed or disrupted even slightly, he only found it more impossible to focus and continue his studies. The only reprieve Mike found was in his ever growing holodeck library and in any spare time he and Scarlett had available to share.

His time at the academy became even more difficult as his best friend slowly fell in love with another cadet over the course of a year, which to his surprise, hurt him more than he could ever describe. He eventually came to the painful realisation he had no say in this matter, especially given the fact he had never said anything to her about how he felt, not that he knew his feelings until he slowly watched her fall in love with someone else. This left him not failing his tests but merely scraping by, which he despised as he knew he could easily pass the exams with flying colours, let alone distinctions. He threw himself even further into his studies, while simultaneously delving into each holo novel one after the other just to distract himself from the truth and reality of the ever growing distance between him and his lifelong friend.

His final exams were rapidly approaching, and Michael was just about managing to cope when he and Scarlett finally started to repair their friendship, both realizing what had transpired between them and even though she was with someone else, he was happy because she was. This gave him the strength, along with his reaffirmed and even stronger, inseparable friendship with Scarlett to charge head first into his finals, easily passing each one as if he had done them a hundred times, even handing in coursework assignments early for a change and he aced everything. Having just finished his second Major, he saw an opportunity to expand on his idea of how to view the universe while studying a book he had not yet read, so he decided to go and sign up for another year to do a Postgraduate specialization.

The last year of the academy was the hardest for Michael, Scarlett had left at the end of the previous year, gaining the highest available awards in Diplomacy specializing in major & minor species Cultures and Fine Arts allowing her to instantly join the ranks of Star Fleets Diplomatic Branch. This made Michael rather lonely in the dwindling months he had left and without his trusted companion to help him, he could barely socialize, let alone make any new friends.

Finishing up at the Academy was one of the hardest, but proudest moments of his life. Katherine and Scarlett had both made special arrangements to attend the ceremony and they celebrated vigorously. With graduation done and out the way, all Michael needed to do was go out into the universe and prove, mostly to himself, why his family had such renown and recognition.
