Personal History

Jonathan and Sarah met while in college in New York, agreeing on marriage during the unplanned pregnancy of Marco. Sarah had the baby, finishing her degree in Education over subspace. Jonathan graduated from college with a degree in Business working at a supply store to make ends meet. After college, Jon opened his own business manufacturing and selling various parts for weapons and engines for Star Fleet. Sarah raised Marco until he was old enough to attend school, at which time, she began working as a secretary for the family business.

Jon and Sarah raised Marco to be a hard worker, teaching him the value of doing things for himself. They taught him to be kind, courteous and respectful to others. His parents loved their only child dearly, showering his with more affection than he could handle at times. They always tried to give Marco the best of everything, when he earned it, whether through doing chores, or odd jobs around the house. They had hoped he would one day work in the family business and take over working through all positions in the plant so he would know the ins and outs.

Marco did well in school, making friends easily, yet keeping only one as his closest friend. He and Jim took great pleasure in extra curricular activities, some which would have gotten him grounded for life had his parents found out about them. Jim and Marco also played sports together, excelling in football, baseball, and lacrosse. Marco and Jim graduated in the top third of their class.

After high school, Marco, like his parents, worked at the family business. Marco stayed only one year, deciding it wasn’t for him. He overheard some co-workers talking about their children joining Star Fleet, and decided to give that a try. Not telling his parents, or his friend Jim, who also worked for the Waverly’s, he applied for and was accepted to the Star Fleet Academy majoring in navigation, and flight tactics and patterns. He also took classes in psychology and astronomy.

Though his parents were not happy with his choice to join Star Fleet, they respected his choice and supported him. Occasionally, Marco talks with his parents via subspace communications, bringing them up to speed on his new life, as well as being brought up to date with the goings on at home and with the business. Even after the time at the Academy, Marco can still sense the sadness from his parents about his choice to leave home and a secure job, yet he maintains his learned professionalism and never shows he is sad to have let them down.
