Tau Cygna V is the inhabited H-class fifth planet in the Tau Cygna system.

This system was located over five thousand light years from the Sol sector.

The planet was saturated with "hyperonic" radiation, which made Human living very difficult, often considered impossible.

This planet had a mountainous and desert landscape, but also had water that was able to be collected. Reportedly, rock slides were not unheard of.

According to Section 133, Paragraph 77 of the "Treaty of Armens," the planet had ceded from the Federation to the Sheliak Corporate.

SS Artemis' established colony

In 2274, the colony ship SS Artemis suffered a guidance system failure and as a result drifted far off course. The crew found Tau Cygna V to be the only habitable planet within reach, and landed.

One-third of the crew and its passengers died from radiation poisoning, and they tried and suffered trying to build their colony.

Using technology from their ship, the crew and passengers built a town, complete with living facilities, in a desert area of the planet. They built an aqueduct, complete with a pumping station that originated on a nearby mountain. Unfortunately, colonists also died in the mission to bring water to the colony. When steady water was finally obtained, the people farmed, creating large fields for cultivation.

The colonists remained lost to the Federation, and completely unknown to the Sheliak (whose territory they were in), as the colony grew over the next ninety years.
As time went on, survival was valued over history, and though the colonists knew their ancestors came from the Federation, most knowledge about their past was lost.

By 2366, the colony's population reached over 15,00, from over three generations of the original settlers.
When the colony was discovered by the Sheliak in 2366, the Starfleet starship USS Enterprise was sent to relocate the colonists. Once they left, the Sheliak laid down their own colony on Tau Cygna V.
