Tagus III is the inhabited third planet in the Tagus system, located in the Beta Quadrant. It is the homeworld of people called the Taguans.

Civilization has existed on the planet for over two billion years, and was therefore one of the most important archeological sites in the galaxy.

Up until 2367, 947 archeological expeditions had been conducted, with 74 of them revealing findings of major importance.

The history of this planet is divided into different periods: the "Arnold Era," the "Post-Ramirez Era," the "Pre-Neskoromny Era," and the "Sepulveda Period."

In the 23rd Century, the Taguans sealed off archeological ruins to foreign visitors.

In 2367, the annual symposium of the Federation Archaeology Council was held in orbit of Tagus III on board the USS Enterprise-D.
