Personal History

Calea and Aileen were married when Calea was 18 and Aileen was 22. They had their first child when Calea was just 20, aboard the, now retired, USS Sunbeam. Her older half-brother, Jayden was raised onboard the ship, until he was 11 years old.

About around Calea’s 30th birthday, her mother, Amadia, decided she would take her daughter on a wonderous trip to vacation on Risa. While they were there, Calea got in over her head after drinking imported liquor instead of replicated and her drink was drugged by a man that had introduced himself as Miststar. Calea woke up the next day, feeling awful, not in her room and completely unclothed. She went to security to report what happened as well as medical to make sure she was unharmed. She was relatively unharmed but has been sexually assaulted by Miststar. Her mother was furious and decided right then to take her daughter home.

3 months after, she informed her husband and her family that she was pregnant and that it was a result of what happened to her. While furious her husband accepted this child because it wasn’t his wife’s or the child’s fault that any of this had happened.

Once she was getting close to giving birth, Calea applied for leave so that she would be able to have her child in the safety of her home planet. She was granted this as the USS Sunbeam was getting ready to decommission.

Once Neelia was born, they noted that her skin was a light tint of green, of course this was expected and they were hoping that it would fade away as she got older. However, it seemed that the color only got more and more deep as she aged, the pigments in her skin over taking anything that her mother gave her. This wasn’t a problem for her parents, they decided that they would leave her as is and let her decide when she was older.

Both her parents decided that she would do better with them aboard their ship with her brother, Jayden, who was 11 at the time. They were all transferred to the USS Equinox where the captain of the ship had no problems with the children.

Neelia lead a pretty sheltered childhood as she saw herself as different from everyone else. It wasn’t until she started developing her telepathic abilities that she was becoming more social. It was unusual for a half-betazoid child to have full telepathic abilities, but not uncommon. She started to develop her abilities as a normal rate as the other children her age, so her mother was thankful for that.

Once Neelia was 16, she was given permission to help aboard the ship, which in turn would help her socially. She spent most of her time in with her mother in sickbay, learning and ins and outs of medical. It was daunting at times as well as frightening when someone would come in injured. It was at this time where Neelia learned a bit of empathy towards others, instead of just excluding herself from the crowd. Most of the time it was fairly quiet with people coming only for checkups for small scrapes they had gotten from working in engineering. Otherwise, if it was really bad, she would see herself out as she felt she was only in the way at that point.

It was an encounter with one of the cadets that set certain things in motion that would affect her for the rest of her life. She and a cadet, who was on their way to the academy, were working side by side in sickbay. The pair were organizing some medical supplies, when, In the closeness of the situation, caused contact for an extended period of time. During this time, Neelia began to have a headache and flashes of memories that she did not recognize.

She went and explained this to mother after the headaches were becoming so powerful that it had caused her to be unable to do anything else. Her mother noted that I sounded like a form of touch-telepathy but she could not be sure. Calea called her mother that night to explain and random tests with different trusted crewmembers were done, and it seemed like Neelia could, involuntarily read the memories of others through extended contact. Luckily for her, it seemed like it had to be minutes of extended contact with non-telepaths, so as long as she didn’t touch anyone for a long period of time, she would be okay.

It was during the time of testing that Neelia was paired with her mother, after a minute of headaches had passed, Neelia began to see the awful situation that happened to her mother, and somehow, she was powerless to get herself to stop. After nearly viewing the whole scenario, Neelia was upset for a long while about all of this, but never told her mother how much it affected her.

It was suggested by her step-father, Aileen, that Neelia would do well wearing something that would cover her hands and prevent skin on skin contact with anyone. Being a former engineer, Aileen decided that he would fashion it daughter a pair of bracelets that could wrap her hands in a liquid polymer to prevent contact but it would also not hinder her future.

It was also noted that it may be a side effect from her Orion side, but her mother wasn’t sure as they didn’t have a lot of information on the Orion people. She also noticed that it seemed Neelia didn’t have the female Orion hormones that contributed to alluring men, which she was thankful for. Although Neelia protested saying that she never really tired, it wasn’t something that her mother was comfortable testing out.

It wasn’t until she mentioned it to her father that he suggested the help of one of his friends, who was married, so it would make it a challenge and really test to see if it actually worked, much to Neelia’s dismay, it looked it it only worked slightly, and that she didn’t either have full control or full ability to allure men like other Female Orions.

After all was settled down, Neelia was speaking with her cadet friend who suggested that maybe she go into Star Fleet like her parents. Thinking that it wasn’t a bad idea, Neelia consulted her mother who was overjoyed at the prospect of her daughter joining. After a week or so in a holodeck with her mother, it was decided that Neelia was going to go into Medical, just like her mother. Calea was overjoyed at this and was glad that her daughter found a love in the medical field as she did.

It took her a little longer to be accepted into the academy as she to have her glove idea approved before entering. The hard part of the two was controlling whatever hormones were coming from her Orion side. This time he enlisted the help of her mother, the CMO, who suggested a medicine that would suppress the side, which she would have a take daily every morning without fail, should she miss a dose, it may result in the hormones blasting full force without warning.

Due to all of this, Neelia had to sign a statement under oath by Star Fleet. The Statement reads: “I, Neelia Pureheart, herby under oath will not use my touch telepathy voluntary without due permission from the Captain, or acting Captain of my ship. Furthermore, due to my Orion nature I am hereby ordered to take my hormone reducer everything morning at 0800 hours, to purposely forget or to forgo with malicious intent will result in severe disciplinary actions that would result in my termination from Star Fleet.” The oath was placed on her record; however, it can only be viewed by Officers and above.

During her time at the academy, Neelia became best friends with Rosa Lynn, a human who was studying the same department as she was. At first, Neelia wasn’t too overjoyed with the prospect of someone in her space, but the more that Rosa pushed the more Neelia’s invisible barriers came down and she let Rosa in. After a bit the two were inseparable, always seen going from place to place together, eating lunch at the same time and even sleeping the same number of hours.

They were both hoping that they would be placed on the same ship once they graduated, but sadly, that was not the case in this instance. They, however, made a promise to each other to call as much as possible and let the other know what was going on in their lives and on their ship.

Personal Paradigm Shifts

Most Painful Experience: Neelia’s most painful experience was when she was testing her touch-telepathy with her mother and was able to see the situation that her mother was put in that brought upon her birth. Although it was of no fault of either of them, Neelia carries a small bit of shame upon herself for the actions of her father.
Best Time: The time when Neelia was the happiest was when she was spending most of her time at the academy with Rosa, it was a good feeling to finally have someone that she could full trust outside of her family. Rosa was her first real friend and showed her a lot of things about other races as well as people in general that would help her on her career later.
Most Crucial Experience: It would be when she was just learning about her powers and the ability to feel the emotions of everyone else, it helped her to see that she was not as outcasted as she thought, but even with this knowledge she kept to herself.
Role Model: Although a lot of people would suspect that Neelia’s role model is her mother, it is in fact her step-father, Aileen, that she looks up to the most. He put aside his pride, put side any prejudices with her Orion side or with that happened and pretty much welcomed her into the world like she was his own child. Although she’s not very comfortable with him or being around him alone, due to not knowing what to say, she respects him all the same.
