Personal History
Birth
Pheral Ohmsford is the only child of Myst Ohmsford and the Denobulan, Xerin, who has two other wives and other children by them who Pheral does not consider his true siblings partially because he had been artificially inseminated due to Myst's inability to bear children naturally.
His parents met when Myst - a Starfleet scientist - crashed her shuttle into one of Denobula's two moons while exploring - and getting too close to - a spacial anomaly in that sector. Xerin was the doctor who had responded to the distress call, and nursed her back to health, forming a relationship with her in the process. Xerin's other wives supported his choice in making Myst his third wife. And, after several failed attempts at conceiving a child, she agreed to take part in Xerin's experiments to produce a healthy Denobulan child with another species.
It would be the only child Xerin would ever conceive with her.
Childhood to Adolescent
He lived on both Denobula and Earth, his mother raising him on Earth and Xerin on Denobula, going to different schools on both worlds, and had always had a difficult time trying to separate his Human and Denobulan heritage, and even though he compromised and took parts from both, he still had plenty of awkward moments in his life and some even resulted in violent...misunderstandings at times in which he had no choice but to defend himself (Mostly on Earth), prompting him to learn some martial arts at a young age, which he now mainly uses for exercise.
He wasn't exceptionally gifted as a child, but he more than made up for that with tenacity, determination, and a willingness to learn everything he could. He used his superior immune system and physical prowess as a child to compete in martial arts competitions and other sporting events to gain acceptance and confidence.
But, later in his childhood, he found another form of acceptance; he discovered a real talent for music, which turned into more than just a hobby. Pheral learned how to play several instruments, mainly stringed and electronic, including his favorites; guitars and pianos. He also tried singing, but for some reason it made children cry, so he just stuck with what he knew. Music would turn out to be...well...instrumental in Pheral's academic career, as he learned to incorporate the two to help him better retain and recall information.
Adult
As he grew, he studied multiple fields of medicine and science, not really concerned with any particular one since he had discovered a natural affinity for them. He had a long life span, and decided to use that to his advantage, learning anything and everything he could. He received several advanced degrees and doctorates over his career, from Xenobiology to genetics, to nanotechnology and physics, and even received a pilot's license just just to indulge one of his hobbies.
Starfleet Academy
His mother died (when he decided to assume her maiden name of Ohmsford as his last name) long before he even began Starfleet Academy, but he did make his father and extended family proud after finally graduating in 2411, and decided to finally concentrate on medicine, where he believed he could do the most good, though he intends to still pursue scientific interests.
Personality Profile
Academy Major(s): Xenobiology, Neurobiology, Genetics, Psychology
Academy Minor(s): Forensic Medicine, Theoretical Physics, Nanotechnology
Hobbies and Pastimes: Scientific/Medical research(mainly genetic engineering), art(painting), piloting
Short-Term Goals: To explore the galaxy and perhaps command a science/medical vessel one day
Long-Term Goals: To one day become Surgeon General
Personality: Despite his suggestive name, Pheral Ohmsford harbors much of the type 'A' friendly and very patient personality of a typical Denobulan. He does, on rare occasions and almost never in front of anyone, display negative emotions without suffering induced hallucinations which are a common way – and actually preferred - for Denobulans to express such behavior. When he, on rare occasions, is extremely stressed, he will often be found in a holodeck where he can vent properly.
He makes friends rather easily, despite his idiosyncrasies and eccentric tastes - although he doesn't consider any to be 'best' friends yet - but personal relationships are difficult, since he has trouble separating his human moral issues from his Denobulan ones. Most of the time it is fairly harmless and even humorous to Denobulan females, and can be quite embarrassing when Human females are concerned.
He is loyal almost to a fault to the few people he believes are his closest friends and allies. But, although he took the Hippocratic Oath, he somehow still walks the fine line between that and the Denobulan medical code of respecting a patient's right to be treated or not.
Even though he has taken the Hippocratic Oath, he will not hesitate to defend his patients' lives with extreme prejudice should the need ever arise.
Sense of Humor: Somewhat witty, but does have moments of comedic genius.Tends to laugh at things other people might find repulsive or disgusting without giving it a second thought. He does know when to laugh and when not to.
Phobias: None so far
Likes: Music, strategy games, sports, history, holodecks
Dislikes: Prejudice, Criminals, seeing people in pain
Pet Peeves or Gripes: Greed, Hypocrisy, Negativity
Bad Habits or Vices: Tends to bore people with extensive explanations or scientific findings.
Achievements: Several Medical Doctorates and degrees including but not limited to: Xenobiology, Physiology, General Medicine/Surgery, Graduating Starfleet Academy, a published author of several papers in different medical fields.
Disappointments: He still has a difficult time separating his Human and Denobulan heritages despite counseling.
Illnesses: None.
Strengths: Long life span, powerful immune system, requires little sleep - only several days out of a whole year. Almost always optimistic, seldom resorts to violence or hateful behavior, loyal and dedicated.
Weaknesses: Does not like to be touched for extended periods unless during mating rituals. Sometimes when stressed his human part seeps through which can complicate relationships and he does sometimes, though rare, show “negative” emotions in public. Tends to be a workaholic to the point his friends have to intervene for his own good.
Fears: Dying alone
Prejudices: None
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: Changes with his mood. But normally tries to set himself apart from other crew members by being a bit too flashy sometimes. Usually keeps with the newest fashion trends. Tries to maintain a sense of uniqueness even when he may be the only Denobulan on the ship/base.
Distinguishing Features: Although he is half human, Pheral is considered full Denobulan and has retained all the traits and features of a full blooded Denobulan. Looks to be in his 30's.
Pets: None
Friends: None he considers to be best friends as of yet.
Personal Paradigm Shifts
Most Painful Experience: The death of his mother, even though he knew she had a short life span being Human. Being half human himself, he had a difficult time accepting her death when he knew he would live three times as long as she did.
Best Time: Graduating Starfleet Academy. It was the one time that almost all of his extended family was there in one place at the same time. It also galvanized his family in support of his career choice.
Most Crucial Experience: When he received his first doctorate in General Medicine. It solidified his belief that being a medical doctor was going to be his vocation.
Role Model: Dr. Phlox
