1947 – A forest fire in New Hampshire is drenched with rain produced by seeding cumulus clouds with dry ice, the first such event to happen in the U.S.
1969 – The first-ever computer-to-computer link is established on ARPANET, the precursor to the Internet.
1991 – Space probe Galileo becomes the first Human object to fly past an asteroid. Its closest approach was 1,604 km, passing at a speed of 8 km/sec (5 mi/sec).
