Asteroids are celestial bodies that are less than a planetoid, and are responsible for making up asteroid belts.
Historically, this term has been applied to any astronomical object orbiting a sun that did not resolve into a disc, and has not been observed to have characteristics of an active comet.
Larger asteroids are often called planetoids.
Known Uses:
- The Dominion was fond of constructing facilities on or around asteroids, such as internment camps and ketracel-white facilities.
- The Infamous Klingon penal colony Rura Penthe was constructed on a particularly inhospitable asteroid.
- In 2373, the Etanian Order bombarded a Nezu colony with manufactured asteroids, as a prelude to annexing the planet.
