Personal History

Born into a wealthy and influential Klingon House, K'ehley should have been set up for life, if not for the misfortune to be born sixth in line after four brothers and a sister. There was to be little glory in her future, with even the duty of child bearing to continue the bloodline falling on the shoulders of her elder sister, and her brothers following the well trodden path to become warriors and leaders.

Sister Lukara was beautiful, brothers K'tesh, Barot, Korax and Ruk'evet typical warrior caste, vying for attention and status.

Father, K'vak son of Meklar founder of the House of Meklar, was a ruthless and brutal warrior, respected for his prowess in battle both hand to hand and in space battle. He could often be a cruel and dispassionate man though.

Mother, Dennas, led the household in all domestic matters. Her favourite child was Lukara, who she raised to become the next matriarchal figure in the House. As such, K'ehley was almost superfluous and always seemed to be underfoot. The youngest child was therefore cared for by the House nursemaid, Kathka.

Kathka was a good nursemaid to K'ehley, and saw the interest and curiosity in the sciences in her, and provided material for the girl to read and even do her own experiments. She hoped that K'ehley would enter the Klingon science division some day, but there was to be little support from the girl's family.

And so, overlooked and unappreciated, as a teenager K'ehley found her rebellion by pursuing an interest in science. Her father barely noticed, and her mother did her best to keep it that way.

When she was sixteen the opportunity presented itself to escape, to run away, and abandon her Klingon heritage and prison. Her mother instructed her to travel with Kathka to one of the agricultural moons to bring back particular supplies ordered for a banquet in her father’s honour. The shuttle was attacked by Orion and Nausicaan pirates. Rescue came in the unlikely form of a Starfleet vessel but not before Kathka was fatally wounded. Even the vaunted Starfleet medical officer could not save her. Distraught from losing her only friend and nursemaid, K’ehley desperately thought of some way to not have to return to her family home. She requested asylum from Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets.

Gaining asylum was difficult, but the UFP belief in self determination was on her side and eventually her family gave her up. So insulted were they that her father declared her exile and Discommendation.

K’ehley felt regret at this, and did miss her family on one level, but also felt a great burden lifted from her shoulders. Now she was able to find a life for herself, using her own skills and merit rather than what Klingon society and cultural tradition expected or demanded of her. To begin with she was given Quarters on the Federation Starbase Bravo, and attended school there. This was her first taste of living among a wide range of people from different worlds and backgrounds. She made a friend, a human female named Annasia, who helped her find her way. After the lengthy legal battle for asylum and eventual discommendation, she applied to Starfleet Academy and began training to join the Science department. Now she dared to dream, she dreamt of travelling the four Quadrants and seeing the great wonders awaiting discovery.

Her Academy life was sometimes difficult. She had to learn to deal with the prejudices of others towards her Klingon heritage, and against assumptions that she would not be smart enough to understand let alone excel in the sciences. She would point out that even Klingons needed scientists to develop warp travel and other technology, but would put her mind to work to learn the ways of Starfleet and the UFP races. She found help in these times of trouble from Annasia, who had joined the Academy at the same time and had requested to be roommate.

Given that she had heritage and prejudices against her, she found it tough going at times, but she took it upon herself to remain in the Academy to study more fields of science. She majored in the sciences of the stars, but also put her mind to learning of various life forms and plants and ecosystems. Annasia had graduated at the normal pace but kept in contact with K’ehley after she was assigned to a starship.

Upon graduation she was assigned as science officer on board the USS Leybourne, an old Galactic Science Cruiser serving out the end of her service out in the further reaches of Federation Space. Their deep space mission enabled much survey and research work and minor First Contact encounters, and K’ehley applied herself diligently in the field of exo biology. She earned promotion, and when reaching the rank of Lieutenant was offered the position of department head. Her next assignment was to be the USS Philadelphia, a new Rhode Island class survey vessel, equipped with cutting edge technology that was way more advanced than anything she’d seen in Klingon science. She felt proud to be given this chance to fulfil her potential, and she was excited to begin the next voyage of discovery out there in space.

Hobbies and Pastimes: Reading scientific research, listening to an eclectic range of music from around the Quadrants to suit her moods. Has occasionally attempted to learn to play a musical instrument but never fully committed to the project. Keeps fit to fight as a way to focus through difficult times, often through holodeck programs.
Short-Term Goals: To explore new regions of space, discover new phenomena and new species of life on board top of the range science starship.
Long-Term Goals: To win the Zee-Magnees Prize for scientific research
Personality: Quiet for a Klingon, attentive, polite until angered then assertive and dominant.

Likes: Art and music, learning about other cultures, nature and wildlife
Dislikes: Dishonorable or untrustworthy people
Pet Peeves or Gripes: People who whine or lie to get out of duties
Bad Habits or Vices: Becoming too engrossed in a book or research, unable to take a simple ‘walk in the park’ without stopping to identify or study botanical or fauna species along the way. Everything is an opportunity to apply science.
Achievements: Being granted asylum and acceptance into Starfleet Academy, graduating with honors.
Disappointments: That her parents would not support her career choice
Illnesses: None out of the ordinary broken bones gained through typical Klingon childhood
Strengths: Problem solver, creative, specialist implementer
