1947 – The famous Roswell UFO incident occurs.

  • In the early morning, rancher Mack Brazel rode out to do morning farm chores, and found a large amount of strange debris across his land.
    He contacted his local Sheriff, who contacted the closest Army Air Field, thinking it a downed plane.
    Military intelligence swarmed the area, and a press release was issued stating that the Army had found debris from a flying saucer.
    Another press release was issued the next day retracting that statement, saying instead that it was a "weather balloon."
