Personal History
Alys was raised in a rural environment on earth in a place called Kangaloon in the southern highlands of New South Wales, Australia. Alys grew up as an only child, but has always known of her older sibling, a sister, Grace, who died in infancy about two years before Alys’s birth.
Alys was a capable and hard working student, who found academia easily embraced. She had several boyfriends but no serious relationship distracted her from her studies or love of bush walking. Bush walking grew from walking with her father in the local area. Later, a tribal elder, a school mate’s father, taught her some basics of bush tucker and bush medicine which proved useful – life saving even – when she was lost on an excursion in a remote area of North-Western Australia.
Alys, a warm natured young woman studied astrophysics and geology at University in Australia, and graduated with distinction. At the same time, she gained a private shuttle licence. Her heroine since her teens was the Australian 20th Century aviatrix, Nancy Bird-Walton, who was a trend setter and ground breaking feminist before it was fashionable; Bird-Walton was the first commercially licensed woman pilot who proved women could thrive when they were still regarded as “needing protection” by men. As a result of her admiration for Bird-Walton, Alys hopes to become a ground breaking woman of her own time. In order to achieve this she joined Star Fleet.
Alys’s time at Star Fleet Academy was unremarkable due to her intention to be able to say “I did my best” and on graduation she knew it was true.
Self-sufficient; compassionate; a realist; honest, reliable and loyal. She is often regarded as solemn until people get to know her. Alys resents male chauvinism and injustice of any type.

Prejudices: People who try to talk her into a stance or action that she does not want to become involved in. Alys classes them as “timewasters” and summarily dismisses them from her priorities.

Personal Paradigm Shifts
Most Painful Experience: The memory of her first pet cat’s death.
Best Time: Watching the sunrise over the beach at the coast.
Most Crucial Experience: Realising that there was more than her planet, Earth; the solar system; or even a whole universe to engage with.
Role Model: Nancy Bird-Walton, a 20th Century aviatrix who was a ground breaking pioneer. She was the first licensed commercial woman pilot in Australia, and broke many taboos about the abilities of women in the remote Central Australian terrain.
