The Federation credit is the monetary unit of the United Federation of Planets.
As of the 23rd century, the Federation abandoned the normal use of money, favoring a philosophy of self-enhancement for all.
Despite this, the Federation retained a currency based economic system, involving the use of computer-based "Credits".
By the 24th century, the majority of non-Federation worlds in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants adopted a monetary system backed by Gold-Pressed Latinum.
- In the 24th century, some establishments would not accept Federation Credits.
In the early 25th century, Star Fleet officers were paid in Federation Credits on a monthly basis. The Pay Scale can be found here. The Federation government has also adopted an exchange rate between Credits and Latinum, so as to further encourage free trade between member and non-member worlds.
- As of 2418, the current exchange rate is:
1 Credit = 1 Slip
100 Credits = 1 Strip
1,000 Credits = 1 Bar
This is not necessarily an equal exchange rate, and the Ferengi justify it by claiming 'service fees'.
Mentions

- In 2364, Beverly Crusher bought a roll of cloth and had her account on the USS Enterprise-D billed.
- The Federation would have paid 1.5 million Federation credits as a lump sum and then 100,000 credits every Barzanian year for the rights to the Barzan wormhole.
- Quark accepted credits in his bar when doing business with Federation citizens.
