Federation Bureau of Planetary Treaties

The Bureau of Planetary Treaties, referred to simply as the Bureau of Treaties is the United Federation of Planets department responsible to conducting planetary treaties.

Located in the Sol System, their main duty is planetary recruitment and agreements with independent governments.

During the mid-23rd century, this department attempted for many years to convince the Gideon Council to allow Federation diplomats onto their planet, and to join the Federation.

However, the Council consistently refused, only allowing passive sensors from a starship in orbit. In 2268, the Gideons finally agreed to a delegation of one, insisting upon it being the Captain of the USS Enterprise, NCC-1701, James T. Kirk.

After the Enterprise's mission was complete, the Bureau of Treaties followed up with the planet and its people.

Those who work for this department are known as Treaty Officers.
