Personal History
Born into ancient nobility, which can reliably trace its history back to the time of the first Crusade, Earth's 11th century, Alexander comes from a very tradition-bound family with a long military tradition, having served in all branches of the Danish military since time immemorial. After the formation of the Federation, the family took up mostly ceremonial positions in the "Royal Guards", the ceremonial "guards" of the King. Alexander's father and older brother were the first members of the family in more than two centuries to take on actual combat roles, both serving in Starfleet during various wars. Alexander, thus, was somewhat disappointed when the newest Romulan war ended "so quickly", before he could graduate to take part in the fight, and avenge his brother, who fell in the Battle of Starbase 157.
Known by both friends (affectionately) and foes (mockingly) as "the Human Klingon", Alexander has a very strong sense of honor; but does, ironically, consider the Klingon ways "savage barbarism". When asked to then explain what he means by "honor", he usually points to the ideals of Chivalry, and also holds himself to very high standards. After all: Noblesse oblige.
His semi-feudal mindset has made him very "authoritarian", meaning that he follows orders more or less without question, certainly not discussing a superior's orders in front of subordinates, and expects his orders to be followed in a similar fashion. His years at the Academy has, somewhat, gotten him used to the idea that not all think like this, and he can tolerate it, but if he sees subordinates discussing orders, be they his own or those of others, he can become anything from slightly annoyed, to outright angry, and might try to end the discussion by saying "It has been so ordered!", or something to that effect. Alexander does, however, know that, when that time hopefully comes, one of his duties as First Officer will be to propose alternatives to his captain, and he's working on being able to do without feeling insubordinate.
He is not, however, a brute, nor is he indifferent towards the well-being of his subordinates and his comrades. He sees it as part of his duty as an officer to be aware of the needs and well-being of his men, and is perfectly able to sit down and have a chat over a beer with someone who seems to need it. By no means a councillor in spe, the fact that Alexander visibly cares about his people has helped him earn the respect of many, although most still find his ways anachronistic and strange.
Alexander is dedicated to serving "King and Federation", to continue the long and glorious traditions of his family, and to see the Federation triumphant....and he does share these dedications with all who're willing to listen, and, unfortunately, some who aren't.
He does not, however, share his admiration for Section 31, or the Marquis of so long ago.
Personality Profile
Academy Major(s): Security, Combat Tactics
Academy Minor(s): Rhetoric, Terran History
Hobbies and Pastimes: Alexander likes classical music, and to keep his combat skills sharp in the holodeck. An avid amateur historian, he particularly enjoys recreating historical battles, and changing their outcome. He sees it as a challenge and a way to keep his tactical and stratetic skills sharp.
Short-Term Goals: Get acquainted with his new posting, and earn the trust and respect of his crewmates.
Long-Term Goals: Advance through the ranks, eventually to a command of his own.
Personality: Authoritarian
Sense of Humor: Varies
Phobias: None that he knows of.
Likes: Pushing oneself past the boundaries one thought unbreakable.
Dislikes: Hypocrisy and lack of courage
Pet Peeves or Gripes: When people don't treat or adress superiors with the proper respect. In Alex' mind, a superior is always adressed as either "(Rank) (Last name)", "(Rank)", "Yes (Rank)" or "Aye, sir". Never just "Sure", "You got it", "Mike!", or the like. Those kind of free and easy tone belongs between friends, and is definitely inappropriate while on duty
Achievements: Graduating the Academy with high honors, 3rd in his class.
Disappointments: Not graduating as no 1 in his class in the Academy
Illnesses: None known
Strengths: An enormous dedication and willpower. If he has his mind set on something, or has been ordered to do something, he will see it through to the end.
Weaknesses: His rather old-fashioned ways have previously rubbed people the wrong way.
Fears: Disappointing his superiors, shaming himself and his family.
Prejudices: He absolutely loathes the Ferengi, and would sooner see the banner of the Federation, or another of the galactic powers, waving over Ferenginar. The culture of the Ferengi is an abomination to him, and that colors his interaction with members of the species.
Off Duty Clothing Tastes: White shirt, blank pants, polished shoes
Distinguishing Features: Alex has a very pronounced British accent, which he picked up during his years at Eaton.
Pets: None
Friends: Paul Worchester, from his boarding school. Paul and Alexander were in the same House at Eaton, and quickly found out that their mindsets were similar, both boys coming from a family with a long history. They stuck together, joining the same sports teams, and when they were old enough, they went out at night together as well. Alexander and Paul see in eachother, what they very rarely have had elsewhere: A true friend, and they do their best to maintain contact even now. Alexander was, during his senior year at the Academy, best man at Paul's wedding.
Personal Paradigm Shifts
Most Painful Experience: The loss of his brother, who was killed in action during the latest Romulan War.
Best Time: The time he spent at the exclusive Eaton boarding school.
Most Crucial Experience: One time when he was probably 8 or 9, when his father sat him down and told him whole story about his family and its proud history. He remembers a fire being lit in his heart on that day, and his sense of family, of honor, of duty, stems from that experience.
Role Model: Richard the Lionheart, Leonidas of Sparta, Charlemagne. All three of those, or, Alexander admits, at least the myths surrounding them, personify the values he hold dear: Chivalry, honor, courage in the face of danger, determination and fortitude.
