Personal History

Daniel is an only child. Being brought up on a farm with his mother and father he wanted more from life then farm work. He always wanted to go up among the stars and did so on a visit to Mars aged 8 with his mother as his father was too busy it was just them. While there he caught larosian virus which took him a week to shake off.

However, this didn't stop him from wanting to join Star Fleet and visit all kinds of strange and new worlds. With Dan not taking any interest in his fathers work it began to distance them to the point where they would only see eachy other once or twice a week.

He took up more outdoor activities which included horse riding and swinmming. The swimming proved worth while as he won the inter-planet swimming contest when he was 16. Due to him and his father not getting along very well he was surprised to see him in the crowd, but that was the first and last time his father took any interest in what his son was doing.

When he was about to sign up to join Star Fleet it was the first time in two years they had a fight over something that Dan thought his father would have been proud of, but instead his father completly cut himself off from Dan in doing so it made it the last time they talked to each-other.

Dan has kept in touch with his mother who has been a great support to him and has been in everything that he has done.

Brooks returned to Earth when the Copernicus was re-assisgned to the First Battle Group. He went to patch things up with his family which seemed to have worked but there was still something wrong that he could put his finger on. During his stay he also visited his friend Alan Taylor's grave.

Along with Lieutenant St.Vrain, Brooks was kidnapped by a primitive group of humans while on an away mission to a planet in the Gamma Cephei system. The rest of the away team noticed they were missing and went in search. However, they were not in time to stop the locals' torture of Brooks, though they were in time to prevent St.Vrain being injured. Shortly after the away mission Brooks was promoted to Lieutenant Commander to the joy of his family. However it was short lived when he was called back to Star Fleet Medical to help assist in Cardiac surgery. Daniel re-joined to USS Copernicus on Stardate 21009.17.

Daniel had to see the Ship's Counsellor after he was suffering from nightmares from being kidnapped, on recommendation of his fellow officer Peter Powell and Elspeth St.Vrain - who he had been dating for a while. Brooks and St. Vrain's relationship was being kept quiet for a while but it wasn't long before it was ship gossip and in the end they made it known to the rest of the crew.

Brooks was surprised when Commander Hawk offered him the role of Second Officer on the Copernicus after Lieutenant Commander Fields was promoted to First Officer. He was very honoured to be offered the position and accepted it.

Brooks was taken through a dark patch in his personal life when Peter Powell left Starfleet to look after a family member, and this was swiftly followed by an MIA report on Elspeth St.Vrain, who had been reassigned just before the last war. He found reports on someone who answered her description, only to go cold once she took a freighter ship, which didn't log where it was going.

With some major crew changes, including department heads and a new first officer, Brooks felt like a dinosaur and tried to adjust, which took a little time. In fact, if he self-diagnosed himself, it would have shown that he was going through a belt of depression. Having recovered by readjusting his outlook thanks to Chief Engineering Officer Boislevesque, now first officer of the Sheridan, Dan went to Earth to see the new president on First Contact Day.
