A Bajoran lightship was a type of early-Bajoran spacecraft, partially constructed of lumber, which utilized solar sail-powered spaceflight.

In use from the 16th Century to the 22nd Century, a lightship could be operated by one person, and was warp-capable only through riding tachyon eddies.

The use of lightships were used by Bajorans to travel from Bajor to Cardassia, thus establishing first contact between the two worlds and the people. For many years, the Cardassians disputed this, claiming the Cardassian people had established first contact with the "lesser" Bajorans, not the other way around. This was ultimately proved wrong when Captain Benjamin Sisko and his son constructed a lightship from ancient Bajoran blueprints, forcing the Cardassian government to admit they were wrong.

Though not capable by themselves of achieving warp, a semi-controlled warp jump is possible with a lightship if tachyon particles collided with the sails, like wind with a sailboat. Unfortunately, the ship itself was not completely designed to endure the stress of warp-level speeds, and while the sails could be damaged, the structure of the ship itself was sound enough to protect whoever was driving it.
