2nd Century

Cai Lun of China invents paper on Earth.

  • Ptolemy compiles a catalogue of all stars visible to the naked eye.
  • The Roman Empire attained its greatest expansion under the emperor Trajan.

3rd Century

  • The inhabitants of Vulcan engage in terrible and destructive wars.
  • They include the use of atomic bombs, which is a result of the violent passions and emotions that govern the Vulcan people.
  • It is a considered a savage time, even by Earth standards. Myths from this period describe a terrifying weapon of war called the "Stone of Gol," a device which kills with the power of the mind.
  • Vulcans experience the "Time of Awakening," where Surak of Vulcan leads his people onto a path of peace and logic.

  • The Roman civilization began its final slide into decline.

4th Century

  • Vulcan continues with its savage time with destructive wars, using terrible weapons such as the atomic bomb.
  • The "Time of Awakening" is still gaining ground, as well.

  • Kukulkan, a benevolent alien being visits the Mayan civilization on Earth and helps in their development.

  • The Justinian Code is written, a document that outlines basic Human rights.
  • "Vaghbata," Indian medical books, are written during this time.

Kahless forges the first bat'leth, according to Klingon oral history.

Supernova SN 1006, the brightest supernova in recorded history, appears in the constellation Lupus.
Ibn Samh of Al-Andalus builds a geared mechanical astrolabe.
July 4, 1054
A supernova is observed by the Chinese, the Arabs and possibly Amerindians near the star Tauri. For several months it remains bright enough to be seen during the day. Its remnants form the Crab Nebula.

12th Century

Andorians become warp-capable.

After spreading across Europe for several years, the "Black Death" reaches Great Britain.
During the plague, 11% of the population of London died.

  • Kulkulkan visits the Aztec civilization on Earth and aids in their development.

13th Century

The Andorian warlord Krotus unites the entire planet under his rule.
During his reign, the Andorians enter their Industrial Age, and achieve a level of peace, as well as prosperity that was not known prior.

  • The family of Lwaxana Troi acquire a brooch, which will be passed down for thirty-six generations.

Earth Events

Eyeglasses are invented in Venice, Italy.

  • The Neo-Aramaic languages begin to develop during the course of the century.
  • The earliest known rockets, landmines, and handguns are made by the Chinese for use in warfare.

14th Century

Alpha Quadrant Events

The Great Starvation begins on Cardassia, and sees the end of the "Second Hebitian Period."

  • Kahless and his mate, Lukara, fight the Battle of Qam-Chee.
  • Qo'noS is attacked by a group of plundering aliens, whom the Klingons name the Hur'q.
    Many cultural artifacts are stolen, most notably the Sword of Kahless.
    Also during this century, Klingon warriors set out and slew all of their gods, because they were "more trouble than they were worth."

  • The Vulcan holiday of "Rumarie" ceases to be observed.

  • The Promellians and the Menthars fight a devastating war near Orelious IX.
    The conflict eventually results in the destruction of the planet and both races.

  • A group of humanoid travelers are stranded on the planet Meridian, which intersects two distinct dimensions.

Earth Events

The bubonic plague breaks out, and spreads throughout Asia and Europe, wiping out over two thirds of Eurasian Humans.

Beta Quadrant Events

  • Kataan suffers a protracted drought due to increasing solar radiation.
    Realizing that their sun is about to go nova, the inhabitants launch a probe containing a memory record of their civilization.

  • The Ventaxian civilization, suffering from environmental pollution, severe overcrowding, and constant warfare, begin a thousand-year period of peace and prosperity.
    According to legend, this is due to the Ventaxians making a pact with a supernatural being named "Ardra."

  • The people of Ardana build a magnificent city named "Stratos," which floats among the clouds.
    It is widely considered to be the galaxy's greatest example of sustained antigravity.

Delta Quadrant Events

  • Two Nacene choose to remain and protect the Ocampa from the damage they caused.

15th Century

Vulcan scientist T'Vran discovers warp drive, and sees her people begin a period of observing other cultures.
After the Turei render their homeworld uninhabitable by plasma weapon bombardments, a battalion of approximately 600 Vaadwaur warriors take refuge below the planet's surface in a state of cryostasis.
Intending to remain in stasis for only five years, they are eventually woken up when the USS Voyager visits their planet 892 years later.

16th Century

Alpha Quadrant Events

The Cardassian Union is officially declared as a single world government, with Urrent Gar becoming its first de facto ruler.

  • The Second Dynasty rules over the Klingon Empire, but ends with General K'Trelan assassinating Emperor Reclaw, later executing all the members of the Imperial Family.
  • During the next ten years, the Klingon Empire was ruled by a council elected by the people, which is referred to as "The Dark Time" by Klingon historians.
  • Following this period, a new group of Klingons, called the Third Dynasty, were given the titles and names of the original Imperial Family.
    This was done in order to create the illusion of an unbroken line, since the true Imperial bloodlines were cut at the end of the Second Dynasty.

Earth Events

Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastián Elcano lead the first circumnavigation of the world.
Copernicus publishes his theory that the Earth and the other planets revolve around the Sun.
In western Europe, early experiments with the optical microscope are made.
Sketchbooks and other forms of art of the time record early observations of a more or less scientific nature.
Galileo Galilei invents the thermometer.

Beta Quadrant Events

  • The last war takes place on the planet 892-IV.

Gamma Quadrant Events

  • The T-Rogorans conquer the Skrreea. They kill most of the Skrreean leaders, and force the rest of the population to work as laborers and servants.

17th Century

By this year, Cardassians have developed warp drive technology.

  • On Bajor, the Book of the Kosst Amojan is placed in the Central Archives, and will not be removed until 700 years later.
  • The civilization of Alpha Centauri IV enters an age of reason.
    Science makes great leaps, and moves to the forefront of their society. The civilization vies to learn about spiritual matters, believed to be contained in key fields of science.

Johannes Kepler starts investigating elliptical orbits of planets.
William Harvey publishes his discovery of the circulatory system.
Scientist Isaac Newton devises three laws of motion, which form the basis of Earth's understanding of physics and the universe.

18th Century

  • The people of Beta Portolan are overcome by a mass insanity, brought on by the arrival of the flying parasites.

Earth Events

The lightning rod is invented by Benjamin Franklin.
William Herschel announces discovery of Sol System planet Uranus.

19th Century

The Suliban's home planet becomes uninhabitable, forcing its population to leave.
1850 - 1870
By this point, Vulcans have rebuilt their society and resumed interstellar travel.
A group of shapeshifters from Devidia II use a cholera epidemic on Earth as cover to kill Humans in order to steal their neural energy.

Anesthesia is used for the first time.
Invention of the phonautograph, the first true device for recording sound.
Gregor Mendel formulates his laws of inheritance.
Dmitri Mendeleev creates the Periodic table.
Wilhelm Röntgen identifies x-rays.
