1814 - Anders Jonas Ångström is born, most known for his studies of astrophysics, heat transfer, terrestrial magnetism, and the aurora borealis.
1898 - Astronomer Carl Gustav Witt discovers "433 Eros", the first near-Earth asteroid to be found.
1918 - Biochemist Frederick Sanger is born. During his time at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, he developed and subsequently refined the first-ever DNA sequencing technique.
