Astrophysics is a branch of astronomy that deals with the physics of astronomical objects in the universe.
One who studies in this field is known as an astrophysicist. This science focuses on what objects in space are, rather than where they are.

Some areas of study for astrophysicists include attempts to determine the properties of dark matter, dark energy, black holes, and other celestial bodies, as well as the origin and ultimate fate of the universe.

Topics also studied by theoretical and practical astrophysicists include Solar System formation and evolution, stellar dynamics and evolution, galaxy formation and evolution, large-scale structure of matter in the universe, and the origin of cosmic rays.
