During her life she was told that at any time they could be ordered to move home by StarFleet, however to her surprise this never happened and she grew up on the USS Hawkings for her 18 years. This would have been difficult as since the first day that she remembers there was Laylee Von who had become her best friend as leaving her would be the worst thing she could think of.

While being educated in the ships school educational system Sapphire started to excel in all things science, which wasn't a surprise as she would listen to her parents talking about what they were doing in the science department when they were home, she even was asking questions to find out more stuff, the other subjects that she was studying as did well in, but not as good as science.

There was an incident when Sapphire was twelve years old where the ship was attacked by an unknown race and for some reason it scared her so much that she hid in a cupboard in the families quarters, but she was not able to open it from the inside and she was trapped inside it, from that moment on she was scared of really small and enclosed places and it also gave her a fear of being alone.

When Sapphire was fourteen years old she expressed to her parents that when she was old enough she expressed a decision to her parents that she would like to follow in their footsteps and take the StarFleet entrance exam and become a Science Officer serving in StarFleet.

So for the next four years, her parents helped her out with extra curricular educational activities in order for her to completely smash the entrance examination and become the best officer that she could be and hopefully be even better then they are.

To help her relax and keep fit which she needed to do for being a StarFleet Officer, she took up tennis, this gave her the run around needed to keep toned and fit, also during her down times she also found that she loved going around the cities of Earth shopping for clothes that were the latest fashions.

The day after her eighteenth birthday she sat her StarFleet Academy entrance examination and even though he knew she had done well, she was over joyed when she was granted a place, even thought she was excited there was also a tinge of sadness as her best friend had decided not to join StarFleet and she was remaining on the Hawkings.

She started well at the academy getting all her assignments done and with exceedingly good marks, however in her third year she started to slip in her grades as she had started to have infatuation about another student who was a year older than her and it was only after her science lecturer indicated to her that she was on course to fail this years tests and she would be either be kicked out of the academy or would be dropped back a year, this scared her so much that she buckled down so hard that she manage to turn things around and had enough points to graduate with her class, it was during this time that she found a liking for espresso coffee to help her get through the long night of studying and assignments.
