Personal History

Lily was born into an agricultural family in Wales, with much of her childhood spent in the countryside with her parents on the farm. Lily had always been a quiet girl with few friends and she often found it hard to speak her mind with confidence. Throughout her school years, she searched only for adequacy in her work and her parents grew concerned that her poor effort combined with her shyness would lead to a lack of direction as she grew up. Her father's attempts to encourage her interest in the farm were largely unsuccessful and it became unclear as to what Lily really wanted right up to her late teens.

Then Lily heard about a new Star Fleet initiative at the Academy in San Francisco – young men and women were being offered the chance to sign up as trainee medical staff for short term contracts, receiving on the job courses and a glimpse at what a career in Star Fleet could offer. Something about this initiative stirred a fragment of motivation inside Lily, now 18, and she soon found herself in America, signing up for the next available posting. A month or so passed and Lily presumed her application had failed, but eventually she was sent for an intensive nurse's course and, at the end, was assigned to the USS Sheridan as a trainee.

Her 18 month stint had her up close and personal with many patients, with much of her work taking place during major operations. Lily had expected a quiet, but boring 9-5 where she was used as a basic yeoman for the Chief. What she actually got was battle, horrific viruses and death. And, over time, she came to realise a creeping feeling of solidarity amongst her colleagues. Suffice to say that she was forced to overcome some of her insecurities in order to survive and soon found herself wanting to be seen as helpful around Sickbay. Lily had learnt a lot of grown up faster than ever before.

This self-affirming time on board the Sheridan meant that she was sad to have to leave on being recalled the Academy. Reviews and reports were due to be completed back on Earth where they would undergo a post-assignment workshop. Lily already knew that she wanted to go back to the Sheridan and fortunately she was elevated above her trainee status and instated as a full Crewman on board the destroyer.
