Vedek

Vedeks were Bajorans, acting as established members within the Bajoran religion.

Not all Bajorans were eligible to sit in the Vedek Assembly; one had to be selected to join the ranks.

Vedeks could be defrocked if they publicly took positions on issues that were at odds with those the Assembly took.

• For example, Vedek Yarka was defrocked in 2371 for leading protests against the Bajoran-Cardassian Treaty, which the Assembly endorsed.

Vedek Assembly

The Vedek Assembly is the governing body of the Bajoran religion, and holds great political influence. The Assembly is led by the Kai, the leading religious figure on Bajor.
