It was decided by new Commandant General Bartlett (formerly of Marine Special Operations and a proponent of the XF-2 Project) to procure cost-effective and combat-tested spacecraft, using the Special Operations-oriented XF-2 as a base, but without many of the bells and whistles that made the former work as a long-range stealth craft.
When, it attracted the attention of Star Fleet Tactical Command, who are also currently assessing the viability of a single multi-role attack fighter to replace the A-1, F-1 and EW-2. The prototype was first tested by Lieutenant Commanders Jennifer Braggins and Acenvar Crystillin in mid-2417, but the project, along with the accompanying Jupiter-class Carrier was dropped in 2418 when Star Fleet reverted to its exploration mission.
