A designated hospital ship, the Nightingale often zips around its currently-assigned sector(s), dropping off and picking up anything from medical supplies to patients.
This ship type also makes its way to Federation planets, bases, and territories that need medical assistance that they cannot provide on their own.
Medical facilities on these ships are state of the art, with the Nightingale being no exception.
In the early 25th Century, the Nightingale was attacked by rogue Tal Shiar operatives and crossed into the Neutral Zone. The Nikola Tesla was dispatched to render aid, and the ship was recovered. A Romulan spy did, however, escape with classified files.
Following a period of repair and refit, the Nightingale returned to duty in early 2404.
