Personal History

Benjamin is a member of Clan Stone of the Houston Nebula Free Traders. One of two children, BJ 's parents were the late Captain Samuel Frances and Ship’s Chief Doctor Shawntay Rebecca Stonewall, of the deceased FTS Coin. Thirteen years ago, when Benjamin was 12 years old, the FTS Coin was part of a merchant convoy headed for Artimis XII when they were attacked by pirates. The FTS Coin, like all Free Trader Ships, was armed. She carried a pair of missile turrets and a pair of forward mounted March III Darquilian laser weapons. The FTS Coin dropped back towards the tail of the merchant convoy to provide defensive fire against the pirates in a bid to buy time for the other seven unarmed merchant vessels to flee.

The FTS Coin, gravely wounded and spewing atmosphere from several hits from the pirate vessels, held off the pirates for nearly thirty minutes until the Starfleet Patrol Vessel Hawkwing arrived to drive the pirates off. In the final minutes of the battle the FTS Coin was lost. Less than sixty members of the ship’s crew were able to escape using life-pods before the FTS Coin was blown apart.

Benjamin and his sister were rescued and returned to the Free Traders. The Stonewall children were raised by the Captain’s family of the FTS Ka-hah-zay Twelik, another ship of Clan Stone, and raised as if they were blooded to the keel. Benjamin’s sister eventually married into the FTS Ka-hah-zay Twelik while serving as Chief of Power and is now wife to Captain Angus Jamal Dewitt of the FTS Ka-hah-zay Twelik.

Education

The Free Traders invest in the education of their children. Along with maintaining approved standards within the federated planets of math and science, The People place a strong emphasis in trade, languages, and cultures of the different races they have trade relations with. No one who has lived most of their life aboard ship takes safety lightly, so all Free Trader ships add additional training in safety procedures that pertain to their ship and in the use of vacuum suites. As children reach the age of apprenticeship they receive general training in departments aboard ship of which they show a strong aptitude for. BJ has strong skillsets in the mechanical and electrical fields that would serve well in departments such as Ship's Operations or Engineering. BJ also placed well in tests one would associate with quick wit, linguistic communication, and debate. These additional areas of high aptitude made him an ideal candidate to serve as a negotiator/trader for a ship's mercantile department. As a point of information, a Free Trader Ship's Mercantile Department has very high status amongst The People as a Free Trader Ship lives and dies by its ability to make a profit in interplanetary trade.

Benjamin served with the cargo crew until the age of apprenticeship and then served in the Ship's Operations section until reaching his majority of eighteen years. The laws and morals of life amongst the Free Traders are different than that of most planet-based societies. The Free Traders refer to themselves as “The People,” and their laws and morals have been acquired by people that have lived in family trade ships amongst the stars for generations in a nomadic lifestyle similar to that of gypsies from Earth's early history. Benjamin recognized a life-debt to the Federation on behalf of the Starfleet Patrol Vessel Hawkwing arriving to help defeat the pirate attack and rescue the few remaining “People” that had managed to clear the FTS Coin. Life debts amongst the Free Traders come in various terms and are always personal in nature. A life debt is very much like that of an indentured servant. For the rescue of himself, his sister, and the other crew members of the FTS Coin, Benjamin recognizes a term of twenty years' service to Starfleet. When Benjamin reached his majority he applied for and was accepted into the Starfleet Academy.

Most Crucial Experience: When Benjamin came to the decision that he owed Life Debt. It is much a process of honor to him.
Role Model: Danielle Stone, the matriarch of Clan Stone. Her story and history are a model for all who hail from her clan.
